Default F150 Camper Cap

I'm curious if anyone has converted a regular truck cap into a camper. I'm planning a cross country drive and feel like with a little creativity this would be easier than hauling an actual camper. Let me know if anyone has experience! Feel free to include pictures

Well, yes, in a manner of speaking... A Cal King sized bed, takes only 5-10 minutes to set up.

The gf and I spent 2 weeks on the east coast of Canada "camping" out of the the back of the truck. I have a 2011, S-Cab w/ 78" bed and a Leer 100XR cap. I built a cheap/quick ply wood platform using the "pockets" of the drop in bed liner for support. This put the platform just above the wheel wells. We covered the platform with 1/2" foam carpet tiles, and slept on a therm-a-rest. This was a good compromise between head room and storage space. We used 4 "under bed" storage boxes for camping gear (kitchen stuff) and kept a cooler and our bags in the cab.

It was great to be able to go from driving to sleeping in less then 2 minutes!

Last fall I slept in in the truck while hunting (solo, no gf) If your by yourself, build a 32" wide platform over one wheel well. That way you get a place to sit.

It works great... Just make sure you have....
enough ventilation
Curtains
good mattress and pillow
and depending on weather and Cap model.... the back will "leak" when driving or when you open the back glass
