I ordered one and installed it last week. The cable kinks a bit but it doesn't get caught next to the taillight because they give you a piece of foam and shrinkwrap that guides the cable to the right place. My problem is that the cable gets bent to sharply when the gate is fully up. Not really an issue though.

Definitely a good mod

i tested it and could not feel any resistance. felt like the normal tailgate weight to me.

did you have the cable and shock in reverse order? mine doesn't go on the tail light side at all. foam keeps it centered in crack. the foam has to be installed at the bottom of the shock (per instructions) and a ty wrap placed below the foam to prevent slippage.

the closing is like it was before.

also, i am not sure if i was clear on a prior post, but this part is good for all models of ford trucks 2004 to present. they haven't updated their packaging, but it installed like a charm. from opening the package to video posting here, it took about 20 minutes if i had to guess. you could prolly do it faster, but i wasn't in any hurry.

I believe these do not work on step sides. If they even still make them.

If it was an electronic device that automatically opened the tailgate, I'd be interested. But since I'd still have to use the latch anyway, I'm still fit enough to lower it down manually without any problems.

Now all you guys who bought one can list it in your 'mods'.

I have had one on my truck for a few months - definitely a good mod, not because I'm lazy or can't lower the TG myself, but more for my idiot friends who think it's ok to just let the TG slam open. I have the backup camera and don't think the slamming could be good for it.

Also, there is no resistance or help in raising the TG with this installed - I can tell no difference.

it doesn't have anything to do with being lazy. i have 2 young boys who are both in sports. when they go back there to get their stuff, they forget (for reasons i am not aware of) and just let the tg free fall. it drives me crazy and i have yelled at them several times. now, problem solved and no mo yellin' at the youngin's in the parking lot............

There are handle release mechanisms out there on many security systems. You hit the button and an actuator will release the tailgate, this will keep it from slamming down.... now a button to close it... now THERE is a lazy-man's time saver
