Default Extang solid fold and Winter

First time having a tonneau and it snowed, melted and froze out the other day and I went to open the tail gate and it was frozen shut! I manage to wiggle it lose (it was frozen to the tonneau). Next I tried to open the cover and ended up peeling off the foam stuff off the cover! Not too bad think I can glue a few back on and didn't rip too much of the big corner pieces!

Is this a common problem? I was looking forward to not having snow in the back of my truck this year, but recently took the cover off if this is going to be a reoccurring problem!

Sorry to hear about your problem and now I am a little concerned as I just got a 2011 F150 and have ordered a Tuxedo Lo Profile QT soft tonneau for it. I live in Vermont. However, I also bought a winter beater so I don't have to drive the truck on salted roads. The truck will probably spend the winter in my driveway with a snow plow on it.

Any tonneau can freeze shut in bad weather. But if you broke part of the weather stripping when you tried to open it then you should just call Extang. They'll ship you replacement parts for free.

if you have thaw and freeze cycles, all tonneaus will have issues. your best bet is to remove snow asap.... and then wait for some sun to loosen any remaining ice since the solid fold is black in color.

here in MN, the weather is a little more favorable in midwinter since it rarely gets above freezing for a couple month spell. so, the powder snow just blows away.

Discovered the same yesterday.

I needed to load so "gently" banged the underside of the cover until it broke free. No real damage but have several smaller pieces of seal to re-apply with some adhesive.

Think I'll wipe something on the seals. Not sure what the best release agent would be in this case, wax, light oil, silicone grease?

Fluid film. Works great on the tow trucks, in the worst of Canadian winters. It will stain your paint though. So use a cloth and rub the rubber enough to permeate it. Or foam rather. Stupid cheap extang lol. Love mine though!

Not to steal this thread but mind if I ask where/how much for the Lo Pro QT. I am considering this cover. Thanks, Mike

Chose contact cement to re-attach pieces of seal that pulled off. Also made a closer inspection and find seals should be OK though not pristine, (looks something like minor scuffing where ice pulled tiny particles out).

Thanks for the release agent idea, found spray cans available from Grainger. 2.25oz $8.44
