Hey Spiky - I'm just trying to get Ford to do the right thing. They seem to have abandoned us individual customers on this problem.

...agree with oxford Ohio....we had no warning that something like this could happen and apparently it has been known for years. Our insurance covers the cost of the glass, but the life disruption was not good. Had the dogs or a child been hurt I
Cannot imagine how awful it coul have been. Again, a warning or recall should be issued...who would ever suspect this issue existed and know to disconnect wires?

File a complaint with the NHTSA. That's more useful than lawsuits or random internet discussions.

Default Good suggestion

That is a very good suggestion. Had it not been for the online forums, however, I would not have been aware that it happened to others. I was just googling rear windshield F 150 when this forum info came up. Although it is upsetting to learn, Lew sort of has a reason for what happened....it really rattled him. I appreciate all the information here.

The easiest way to disable the window heat is to pull the ground wire at the driver's side bottom corner.

The trouble is that the rear defroster is tied into the heated mirrors. Where I live in Canada the mirrors fog or freeze over often in winter while driving . As soon as I had my first rear window replaced after it exploded I pulled the power feeding it in the bottom passenger corner . The mirrors still work to defrost ,just no power to rear window and the light on the dash switch won't light up .

Next to the power supply wire is a smaller feedback wire. Jump them together and you'll get your indicator lamp back.

My 2016 had a separate fuse for the rear glass. I pulled it so just the mirrors came on with the switch. Easy.

Does 2016 have this problem? It has a completely redesigned window.

So sorry for the confusion and asking a dumb question but I wanted to disable the rear window but keep the mirrors and defrost light working. I folded down the left rear seat (2014 FX4 Loaded) and pulled back the carpet on the back cab. wall. I didn't see a "spade" connector but there was a "I think" ground wire that was grounded to the body with an eye connector. I unbolted it and taped it up and put everything back. Is this the connector everyone is talking about? I haven't had a frost yet so I can't tell if the mirrors are working yet.. Thanks for the help guys!
