I don’t know if possible but has anyone tried to use an aftermarket defroster?

My window shattered last month... Had the defroster on for my side mirrors (my rear window is tinted so dark I don't really look through it unless the slider is open). It was a cold rainy day... The defrosters shut off about a mile from home.... Odd, so I reached over and turned them back on.. about 30 seconds later I swear a bullet hit my window... Nice and spidery.

I'll be replacing the window on my own, along with my sunroof track. It'll take a weekend... but might as well kill two birds with one stone since I have to drop the headliner anyway... I will not be hooking the defroster back up. The water that collects on the roof of the truck then gets pushed off by the wind more than clears it.

Just had my rear window shatter on me Friday afternoon. About 25°F outside, window defroster was on at the time. 😡

A rear window defroster on a truck is a solution for a problem that generally doesn't exist. I've driven plenty of trucks and my rear window has rarely been fogged over.

I've said it multiple times here. I've had my 2013 for six years and never needed to even consider using it.

Angry Exploding rear windshield 2015 F-150

Nov 13, 2019 in the pm, sunny, cold, no precipitation,my 87 year old husband was driving his 2015 F-150 on a paved county road in Indiana and he heard what he thought was a gunshot by his right ear -- glass was everywhere, fortunately most in the back bed with some in back and front seat -- good thing the dogs were not in the back and that the headrest provided a bit of shelter for him. He was completely rattled and found no cause for it. He was able to get to an Autozone and they helped him tape a large floormat to the windshield area. Due to rural location, it was hard to get someone to come our to repair. I wanted to assure the repair price was fair and was shocked when I googled rear windshield Ford F-150 and read all the reports of this being a more that casual occurrence -- could not believe how the woman with the baby in a rear facing car seat could be anything less than livid. It was an awful experience and for someone at his age to clean out the truck so the repairman could replace the glass and change travel plans for the weekend was traumatic...working outside in 25 degree weather is not good for a person at any age. Not to do a recall or at least a warning is socially unconscionable!

I keep hoping this will happen to a lawyer who will sue Ford and therefore help us get ours replaced. I need to clear my mirrors from time to time and am afraid to use the defroster.

Default exploding windshield class action suit

There is a class action suit with a group out of Haverford, PA
Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith investigating for multiple clients

361 Lancaster Ave, Haverford, PA 19041

Phone: (610) 642-8500

It won't be of any short term help, but I do not believe there is an up front to join.

That’s so sweet of you to want to fill a lawyer’s wallet. Unplug the ground wire from the window and it will heat the mirrors and not the window.
