Wow, my rear defrost also stopped working on my 2014 FX4 and I'm actually kind of glad the window didn't break! I'm taking my truck to a tuning shop next wednesday for a 2.5" lift, some rims, tires and a chip but the shop is also specialized in windshield replacement. I was wondering while I'm there I should maybe ask them to take a look on that but I've read so many horror stories about exploding rear window(s) and read so many people saying DON'T USE THE REAR DEFROST ON A F150!!! that I'm wondering if I should let it be broken. What would you guys do? I live in Quebec and we have a long and cold winter so a rear defrost and heated mirrors are kind of handy but if by trying to get this fixed I may be causing my back glass to explode I don't want to risk it... This kinda suck though I have a 55k (CAD) truck and since the 60 000 km warranty is over and my extended third party warranty doesn't cover this I'm actually considering letting this one slip to not end up in a worst position than I'm already at.

I hope I'll get an honest answer, I'm really a huge Ford supporter but stories like this blow my enthusiasm, what would you guys do if you were in my shoes?

Thanks,
Gui.

If I remember everything that was said in this thread, most if not all are ones that have the slider in the rear window and have defrost. I don't think anyone without the sliding window have the issue. Also not sure if the slider also has to be automatic (of course they may be automatic but, I'm not familiar with all the variations) as well. I could have missed a few posts from people that had full windows though.

I'm not sure if this reply was regarding my post but like everyone my FX4 have the rear power sliding window (I think all FX4 have it standard but mine fully equiped, built like a Lariat) and I have no problem opening or closing it, it's just the defrost button that isn't working either on the physical button or the touch screen. (light doesn't work and the defrost obviously isn't)

Yes, it was in reference to you. Sorry, should have quoted it. I also have the same as you. I don't have to worry to much because, mine sits in a garage overnight and in a parking garage during the day when I am at work. Plus, I have a topper on that I've been told helps also. I've been tempted to pull the fuse that controls the rear defrost. I've read that the button will still work for the heated outside mirrors. You just won't get the amber light on the dash when it is on. That being said, I have never had to use the heated mirrors on this truck or on my previous car. That could be because, my vehicle don't sit outside though.

If mind did break, I'll be looking at getting a one piece glass. I never open the rear window.

It was the button?
That's covered by the aftermarket warranty I bought with my truck. Does the touchscreen button works or they both not working?

I haven’t used mine since it broke and was replaced by Ford under warranty. My truck is under the Ford ESP now and I don’t want to risk it.

Our SuperCrews with the 5.5' beds need to have a sliding window to haul long pieces of wood trim and the likes. I use my rear slider all the time for this purpose and fresh air during better weather. The defrost option I could live without.

I wouldn't hit that defrost button if you paid me. Why take the chance, when you know you can open the slider 3x's a day, till sometimes the entire life of the truck, sometimes not, but the window will always be fine.

I get that and I decided to leave like that, it's not an habbit I have, I always make sure everything works on my vehicules. I think it's a shame that Ford didn't address the issue and recalled the trucks who have that problem (only those with the power sliding window have the issue if I read correctly). I know that they're BY FAR the best selling vehicule in Canada and USA and it would cost a small fortune but they messed up so why would we pay for that. Is it me or when you buy a fully equiped truck that's worth over 50k everything should run smoothly? Thanks for your replies guys but I'm mad at Ford right now! If I didn't had that much problems with GM (I owned a Silverado 10 years ago) and would touch a Dodge with a 100ft pole I'd consider switching when I'll change my truck in a few years.
