Exploding rear window
It would reduce the resistance in that part of the circuit allowing for more power to flow to the window heating elements. If there is too much power going to the window, we need to reduce voltage and current.
This might work.

From your work on the thread about the sliding portion of the window, could the condition of the contacts on the slider determine which side shatters? Poor contact, pax side breaks, good contact & driver side breaks ? Or just inconsistency in the manufacturing process.
Since mine is out of warranty I just disabled it. Did keep mirrors & indicator light.

So I have to post something here in order to see Shadetree's post?
Guess so.
Since the heating elements in the rear window are in series (like a 3 battery flashlight) a bad connection at the contacts would only reduce the current flow and heating in all three grids. But the contact area should get hotter than normal.

My personal experience with my 14 was that the rear window defroster just stopped working. I thought it was just a relay or maybe the wires were off or loose.
They replaced the entire rear slider and also the rear defroster 'button', I recently discovered.
I've only used it maybe once after the cabin was warm. So far, so good.

My light quit working, the rear defrost wouldn't work but the mirrors did even though the light was off. The rear defrost did turn on when I used the remote starter on the truck.

Please file a complaint. Should NEVER be a fire.
