My insurance company has a glass policiy but it didn't cover a shattered rear window. My zero dollar deductible glass policy is for front windshield chips and the likes. I had to use my normal comp $250 deductible which is still much better than the $820 safelite bill.

 

Been following with interest. In NE FL don't often have a need for this feature, but looked on my 13 Lariat & passenger side bottom corner of window has a black wire & a yellow wire that have a slide-on connector to the tab on the window. Driver side bottom corner has a black wire with slide-on connector to the tab on the window. All three easily disconnected with long nose pliers. Just let seat back down and pull insulation on back of cab out just far enough to reach connector with pliers. Will disconnect & tape up as soon as rain stops. Hoping mirrors will still defrost & understand no "on" indicator on switch now.
Sounds quite reasonable what someone said about glass heats & expands in a metal frame that won't move = glass shatters.

Whatever the case, Ford hasn't been able to figure out a fix for several years. This and other Ford specific issues that they refuse to address are causing me to lose faith in them. I know that I would never buy a Ford product again... would probably lease, but never own.

 

Thats because they are not looking for a cure! The few they decide to fix, cost far less than working on a fix, which will only admit to an issue and cost them more money!

Just look at the drive line klunk that is still there after all these models!

 

.... and the fiasco called ecoboost!! Ha!! They got me on that one too.

 

Since I've read these threads... I realized I never once had defrost on a rear truck window before. So, I pulled the fuse.

Does anyone know if my heated mirrors will still work?

 

I have never used my rear defrost, nor have I had a reason to. This issue scares me too much on top of it.

 

The mirrors will still defrost. However the indicator light on the button won't work.

 

Yeah, I won't touch mine till the cab is warmed up. I have had a replacement already, from it just failing. So that overheating issue shouldn't be an 'issue'.
Nevertheless, I'm still wary and it hardly is ever foggy or stayed fogged long enough that I would need it on.
My mirrors on the other hand I want to use more often, but I wait till I really need them after it snows and they're 100% icy.

 

Mine did this for a while until the rear window broke with using the remote start. The dealership gave me a 2 year warranty so I use it all the time and with the remote start. If it still works after 2 years of ding that, it should be ok? If not, they will replace it at no cost.
