I want to be proactive and avoid the potential for breakage especially if it happens with my daughter in the back. Anyone try that yet? My dealer is in Dearborn. You can see Ford World HQ from the shop.
Seems for most people, Ford will not fix under warranty. They surely won't replace it if it hasn't broke yet, unless their forced to do a recall.

I had this happen a couple months ago and the dealer repaired everything under warranty. Sent in pics and request to Ford ANC everything was approved without any hassle.

Cool. I just hope they will be proactive and repair it before anyone possibly gets hurt.

The same exact thing happened to me this morning! I have a 2010 F150 FX4. Used the rear defrost and heard a loud pop on the way home this morning and my back right window was shattered. Taking it in to the dealership Monday morning and hope that it's under warranty!

This morning I was heading to work. Had rear defroster on. Went about 3 miles and heard a large POP. I thought something fell on the roof! I got to the parking lot and looked around the truck outside in the dark. I even climbed up on the runners to look at the roof. Nothing looked wrong.

I returned to the parking lot in the evening and hopped in my truck and looked in the rear view and the riders rear (right of the sliding glass middle) window was broken. Looked like a spider web. I thought someone broke my window in the lot but then I remebered the noise in the morning. Also, there was no outside indication of anything hitting the window.

I remembered I had my Rear defrost on that morning and wondered if that got too hot and shattered the window. Started searching the net and sure enough! Others have had the EXACT same thing happen. Going to the Ford dealer as soon as I can! Will let you know. We need a recall on these 2010's! Beware of your rear defroster!

ALL are 2010's. Aparently there is a BIG problem with this.

What can I do to report properly and get manufacturer repair under warranty?

Thanks for your help.

Default Rear Window Issue

My advice is be persistent and have patience. There is a lot of misinformation with the dealers. It took a e-mail to Alan Mulally for me to get my window replaced under warranty, less the deductible.

I have a new appreciation and respect for Ford Motor Company. I treated them with respect and they they treated me the same in turn. Ford is not the same company that is was before Mr. Mulally took the reins.

After reading this whole thread and others like it, I decided to pull the fuse for the rear window. It kinda sucks because having a rear defrost is part of the reason I bought the truck. I was thinking, would putting a smaller fuse in place of the 40 amp prevent this from happening or does it need the full 40 amps just to work?

Default Rear Window on Drivers Side Popped

Have had my 2010 Lariat for almost 3 years and 66k trouble free miles. Tonight turned on the rear defrost (11 degrees F) and heard a loud pop after 2 to 3 minutes. The drivers side rear panel on my 3 piece rear window popped. It seems most people have had the passenger side go, but mine was the drivers side. Will have to see what the dealer has to say tomorrow.

I can understand pulling the fuse due to safety to your child or something of that sort; but Ford should take care of this issue regardless if it is a known problem. As well as we should be able to enjoy our trucks without having to worry about a luxury of the truck breaking,

Ford should step up and do the right thing. They should issue a safety recall on this issue. It's a known design failure for specific model year(s).
