I called the service guy at my dealer and he said they just did one for a guy. He said with the extended warranty, it would be a $100 to replace the back window. Then I told him about the defroster not working, he said there would not be a deductible to fix it for that reason...WTF?

They did set up an appointment with a glass company to come out to the dealer and swap out the window for me. I hope they use a better window or at least glass in the replacement. I would think it would be a OEM part but if not, it may be better.

When I got the extended warranty, the guy told us if we didn't use it, we would get most of the money back. As we are nearing the end of the warranty (and not using it) why should this count towards it as it is a obvious defect?

Has anyone ever got them to extend the warranty for this repair?
Uh............what? Who is the warranty with? I'm having a hard time believing that one.....

Hey thanks for adding the red lettering graphics to my post. Call any ford dealer and ask about the ESP plans. Mine was the 5 year 60,000 premium plan with a $100 deductible. It states if we do not use it we get the price -processing fee back.

In just about the same amount of time it took you to modify my post, you could have googled it for yourself.

I am taking my truck in Thursday for the glass repair. Either way for defroster not working or glass breaking they will go through the ESP which pisses me off as I will not get the rebate I would have got in just 3000 miles (so close but yet so far I guess). I have 3 options available (though Ford should pay for it as a recall).

I am thinking about running it through my insurance company as they insure breaking glass with no deductible and I can get the refunded ESP.

Pay for it myself and get the ESP money and still come out a bit ahead and fight with Ford to pay for the fix.

Use the ESP and fight with Ford for a extension of the ESP plan.

That's called highlighting. It draws attention. Apparently it worked. I could have googled it if you would have stated what warranty, Ford or third party etc, you had.

ETA: Just quickly read over of my Ford ESP paperwork. I cannot find anything saying if I don't use It I'll get money back. Can you please point out the section that covers this.

Many years ago, 98?, I vaguely remember this on an Expedition ESP we bought. Unfortunately, near the end,we had to have an alternator put in so that shot us out of the saddle.

I got a quote for $900 for the rear from my dealer. When they found out that Ford would pay for half, the price went up to $1200. My insurance did cover it minus the deductible but they sent the check to my dealer after I paid the other half. 9 months later after chasing my insurance company, they told me the check went to the dealer and the dealer cut me a check. I was still $250 out of pocket from this bullsht.

That's a shame as for a bit more you could have bought an OEM one and installed it yourself.

I know this issue is a pain in the rear for many but.....

I just bought and installed a manual slider for $250, OEM carlite.

Ok so I decided to disconnect the rear defrost so there is no chance the glass would break. I don’t really care about the rear glass defrosting as much as I do the mirrors. I found that on the passenger side there are 2 wires, a thin yellow one and a heavier gauge black one. Also on the driver’s side there is a black wire about the same gauge as the black one on the passenger’s side that goes into the corner of the window.
By using a test light I know the black one on the passenger’s side has power, and the one on the driver’s side does not, but the yellow wire had power also. Does anyone know what the yellow wire is for?

We were both correct...to a point.

Back then when you bought a extended warranty there was a insuperable policy you could buy ($300) that let you get a refund on most of your money if you never used your warranty. Most of the time they just built it in the cost and sold it as "if you don't use it, you get it back" deal.

This is how we were sold on the ESP. When we called the stealership to see if we were going to use it to fix the rear window or our insurance, we were met with I don't know or have no idea what you are talking about. Turns out the finance manager lied to us just to sell it and get his commission off of it.

We brought the truck in, had them replace the window and a rear tire (had a big nail in the side wall) and scheduled a meeting with the manager to voice our disappointment in finding out we were lied to. We explained to him what was promised and that we always have the truck serviced there (they are same on oil changes as everyone in the area, match anyone's tire prices, and a couple of our customers work there). We have had family and friends buy trucks there as they have one of the highest reputations for dealerships in the area. The end result was "there is nothing in writing" so it was basically we were SOL. I wasnt a happy camper to say the least and asked to see the owner who I have met a couple times.mto make a long story short, she agreed to pay the ESP deductable and payed us $400 which would have been near half of what we were "promised" by the finance guy. Not totally happy but a lot better than the manager offered.

Now we go to get the truck (yes it gets better) and from 30 feet away I noticed the rear window looks different. We were worried it was a replacement window not a OEM window. It says ford on it but looks cheap compared to the original window with the defroster wires laying on the glass not like the original. Just to get out of there they warrantied it for 2 years unlimited miles (made them out it in writing this time). We go to get into the truck and noticed they didn't wash the blue crap off the tire and when I go back to look at it, it was the wrong tire!

At this point I ask the service guy are you just trying to f*** with me? We laughed as what can you do. I went back in to see the owner and ask just put the spare on and let us go. She was not amused and flew out the the service area in flames and pulled the service manager aside and to say the least, the conversation was one sided. They had a new tire there but now Michelin no longer make the tire with white lettering (my size only ) to match. No I am getting pissed off again so she offered all for tires at cost, mount and balance for free, I just have to pay for alignment if I wanted it. Wasn't looking to buy all new tires but it was a good deal on tires. Since they were slow and had a couple hours left, the service manager (who is one of my customers) put 3 guys on my truck, changed the oil, flushed and filled the 4 wheel drive transmission front to back as a bonus.

As soon as I can, I will post pics of the window they put in the truck to see if it looks like what you guys got.

Hopefully no more problems. Interested in the pics.
