My rear defroster didn't explode but it stopped working last week, I brought it in and dealer said its not covered. Looked at the Premium esp plan and it says "back glass- electrical only, not damaged or broken glass." I figured I was covered. Nope apparently the grid is not considered electrical.

Hi Ncm86,

What's your year and mileage?

Hi 4dtrkman,

Brittany's no longer with the company, but Chad, Crystal, and myself are here to help!

wow, quite possibly the dumbest thing ever. how does that not get covered under warranty or ESP? makes me think twice about buying an ESP. Ford blamed mine on the tint shop that two-three lines stopped working within a few months of owning the truck. contacted Ford and the regional rep, talked once and said he would call me back. Never did. Didn't make a difference anyways. my truck got broken into some months later through the rear glass, insurance replaced it and all lines on the defroster work.

what about your auto insurance?

Find another dealer, mine did the same and was covered under extended warranty.

This is a Ford defect, you should not have to make a claim on your insurance!

btw on my new one, safelite replaced it for me. It's been a year since and they also didn't vacuum some glass pieces in the back of my seats and forgot a nut on one of the bolts I found and almost got sucked in by the vacuum.

all works as normal.

Oh they can fix it and they did on later models, they just don't want to pay for all of the bad ones out there!

Funny, I bought my truck and started to read this forum. I read this thread and went to check my rear defrost. It was working. About a week later, window got all fogged up and nothing. Went to the dealer and was told I had to replace the window. Can't remember how much they wanted to fix it but I refuse to pay that amount especially since it's a defective part from Ford and they are aware of it. I just got my fingers crossed that it doesn't shatter especially because my daughter's car seat is right next to the window.

Meagan, you never answered his question. Why is ford not doing anything about this?
