This morning I was heading to work. Had rear defroster on. Went about 3 miles and heard a large POP. I thought something fell on the roof! I got to the parking lot and looked around the truck outside in the dark. I even climbed up on the runners to look at the roof. Nothing looked wrong.

I returned to the parking lot in the evening and hopped in my truck and looked in the rear view and the riders rear (right of the sliding glass middle) window was broken. Looked like a spider web. I thought someone broke my window in the lot but then I remebered the noise in the morning. Also, there was no outside indication of anything hitting the window.

I remembered I had my Rear defrost on that morning and wondered if that got too hot and shattered the window. Started searching the net and sure enough! Others have had the EXACT same thing happen. Going to the Ford dealer as soon as I can! Will let you know. We need a recall on these 2010's! Beware of your rear defroster!

ALL are 2010's. Aparently there is a BIG problem with this.

What can I do to report properly and get manufacturer repair under warranty?

Thanks for your help.
I took it to my dealer (Griffin Ford Waukesha) and they fixed it no questions asked. They did not, however, have an explanation. If this happens to you, take some pictures and try to find a temporary covering so the glass doesn't start breaking apart. I had the unfortunate experience of having this happen the exact way it was described above on Dec 31st.

Guess I am the latest victim of the exploding rear window. Same as everyone else...had had the defroster on for 8-10 minutes on a 43 degree day and fogged rear glass. Sounded like a person landed on the roof of the cab...saw the window immediately and thought the window had been hit with something. Got out at work 5 minutes later and there was no hole or indication of anything impacting it from the outside. Got online and was amazed at how many people are experiencing the same thing.

In light of this current massive buy back and recall with Fiat-Chrysler. I was wondering what the chances are that Ford might step up act on this rear window /defroster shatter problem. Now that Chrysler has shown what happens when you ignore safety / quality issues for so long.

Default Exploding rear window

All you can do is file complaints with the NHTSA, once they get enough they will open a recall-

Good Luck getting anywhere with Ford on this. I've tried.
Even with the extended warranty- good luck.
Pathetic Ford, Pathetic.
