Yup, a lot of people won't use it after reading experiences like yours

What year is your truck bobcatsig? Just curious. Hoping not to have this happen in my '13.

I've read that, but not using the rear defrost isn't an option. I live in Montana and I'm moving out to Portland where it's wet and rainy. I need the rear defrost; it's one of the many reason why I purchased the truck.

Myself I don't care much about the window being defrosted. I spent the previous 7 years in my 07 F150 with heated mirrors with no rear window defrost. Worked well enough for me. So my "perfect" solution would be to disconnect the rear defrost, but as I've read here, the defrost and heated mirrors are one complete circuit. So there's no easy way to get rid of only the defrost.

With the cost of these trucks, new or even a couple years old, it's disgraceful that we need to not use a feature in order to prevent an expensive failure.

And therein lies my issue.

Not to mention, as silly as it sounds, the heated mirrors were a huge deciding factor for me to buy a one year old XLT rather than a brand new STX SuperCrew. I liked almost everything else about the STX better. Now I have think twice every time I go to use them.

With frozen mirrors a daily occurrence out here in Montana during the winter and anywhere else that gets ice and snow; it too was a deciding factor for me.
