I was also told that it wasn't covered through Premium Care, but my dealer was able to get Ford to fix it. I just had to pay my $100 deductible.

From what I've been able to find out, Ford is aware of the problem. I think they're looking for a specific pattern. My dealer wouldn't tell me what that was, but I know they had to take pictures and send it in along with the other information..

I think one key piece to all of this is there has to be proof that the glass exploded due to heat/short. The tell tale sign of that is the melted moulding on the lower corner of the glass on the outside. See pictures I posted along with other members. Otherwise you could have anyone coming in claiming that their glass was shattered. This is pure speculation on my part, but I could tell from discussions with my dealer, coverage came down to how the facts were presented. Like I said, they weren't forthcoming, all they said was "we presented the facts and let's hope for the best". However, quietly my Service writer told me that there was a good chance this would get covered. That leads me to believe that they had the necessary visual proof to get Ford to cover this.

I think this all comes down to how well versed the dealer is on this issue and how it is presented to Ford for a claim.

I would also like to know if there is a correlation between aftermarket tint film (vs. stock factory smoked glass) and the window shattering incidence rate.

At least you had a dealer that went to bat for you. My dealer said that they have never heard of this happening, which I find hard to believe since they have four locations. My dealer also didn't replace the glass, a glass service company did that. That means that my dealer has no reason to even talk to Ford about it. I did file a report with the NTHSA and sent Ford corporate an email.

By the way... The company that i got mine fixed from "Glass of America" put in the correct FoMoCo part. Everything looks good so far. Just fingerprints everywhere. Im gunna check the seal when i go through the car wash soon. Trucks filled with salt right now from this ****ty brutal Chicago weather we've been having.

Ours has the factory smoked windows. The only glass I tinted were the front driver and passenger side glass.

I don't know how they can say they never heard about it. Obviously it's a known issue. My dealer even said Ford knew about it.

Goes to show you the vast differences in dealer service out there.

2010 SCrew Platinum, just bought it used 3 weeks ago and it has 85k miles. First Ford vehicle I have ever owned.

Noticed the rear defrost and heated mirrors weren't working. Did some Googling and started to get worried, especially after verifying that the 'heated backlight' fuse, #32, was intact.

Today I started poking around back there since it was a nice day and low and behold... what, to my wondering eyes, should appear... But assorted chunks of shattered tempered glass behind the rear seat on the passenger side. Whoever Woodhouse uses for detailing gets a slap on the wrist I suppose.

Anyway, I dropped the seat back down and it became clear why the defrost wasn't working - wires were dangling. Plus, the half-wit that did the replacement repair work barely put any effort into trying to properly reassemble things behind the seat.

So, does anyone have pics they can post of the 'rewire' that is done with the new, supposedly fixed glass? It would also be helpful to see how the wires are retained and how the sliding window cable is managed since those are just sort of hanging.

Thanks!
