Exploding rear window
Went to the dealer today to get a price (Still working on uploading the pics). This was the first one they said they have seen. Turns out whole rear window will need to be replaced. Out of warranty coverage so parts cost is $410 CDN + taxes = $463.30, I really expected worse. Power motor from existing window will be used on the new assembly.
Now the kicker, their installation cost from their preferred shop is $350.00.
Shopping for a better install price or I will be tackling this with a few buddies followed by a few beers.

This happened to me last week. Passenger side with defrost on, I have the window with motorized center slider. I was 1 mile from the house on my way to work and heard a loud pop. Sucky thing is my warranty expired in December - dealership said no joy on free repair but to keep my receipt in case they issue a recall or tsb I can get reimbursed. Doubtful that'll ever happen. Safelite is replacing it tomorrow for $500. Not my proudest Ford moment...

? How much if you choose their 'Mediocre' shop? Some punk busted out the factory slider in my 3500HD several years ago, and I had a mobile glass repair guy come out. It wasn't Safelite, but I'm drawing a blank right now(of course) as to who it was.
In any event, they were able to replace the individual panel that was smashed, and all told I wanna say the repair cost $110-at my location.
Might be worth it to check around with your local glass guys, and see if any of 'em can do the same with your truck.
For anyone that wants to avoid this happening, you can just pop fuse #32 out of the junction box in the engine bay. This disables the rear defrost grid, but not the heated mirrors. I did this with mine as I don't really need rear defrost anyways.
Truck is in the shop today getting the full rear window replacement through insurance. Glass supplier has gone through 3 of these full replacement pieces in 2 days...seems I am not alone.
Thanks to all for the comments / experience and suggestions!
One a side note, I was told here in Canada glass warranty from Ford is one year or 20K. I am not holding my breath to see a kickback from Ford on this one.

I have a 2011 and I've noticed since last winter that the bottom three elements of my right rear defroster don't work. What are your thoughts could this be Ford's way of applying a fix? My build date is Nov 2010.
