There are no injuries really. Tempered glass in cars breaks into pieces that are not sharp. Unless you have a kid in the back seat that eats it, you have no risk except to the wallet.

Just got off the phone with the dealer (8:00 am EST) and they quoted $889.77, but they can't get it in till Monday. Just hope nothing happens to it till then.

That is exactly the thing though. My 2mo old (at the time) son was under my window when it exploded. Thankfully it stayed in one piece and didnt rain down on him, but what if it hadn't? Most people, if they have children, have their children ride on the pass side of the vehicle...which is the side that is known to break. It is not just a quality issue, it is a safety issue.

Ouch! I just had mine replaced a few weeks ago and paid $420 for the part plus $200 for labour. My dealer got the part but contracted out the replacement to a local glass company. That's CAD $ too, which is about $530 USD - sounds like you're getting shafted. Unless you have an extended warranty or have claimed it through insurance?

That is total out the door with an aftermarket glass company. I am going to put a claim in as my deductible is $100.

Ah...ok. My dealer tried to get a better price for me with aftermarket glass, but they couldn't get the part so my price was for OEM. Our insurance deductible is $300 so we decided not to claim it. However you spin it, it still sucks.

Just spent roughly an hour on the phone with my insurance. Long story short, my dealer is not doing the work and insurance is dealing directly with the aftermarket company. The aftermarket company is not able to get aftermarket glass for this case so they have to go OEM. They are able to do it Friday though so that's a plus. The price is still the same. I just hope it is the updated design.

Good point! I was told I have a 2 year warranty on the new glass but how on earth do we find out if it's the updated design. I assume it is, but I've learned the hard way never to assume. Though I guess I just did.

FYI- ford doesn't do the repairs, the glass companies locally that stock Ford glass do, most typically charge about 600.00 to do the job, if you have paid more than that, you were ripped off. Keep your receipts in case this is recalled. File complaints with the NHTSB to push this to a recall, I traded my truck in and driving a beater I am more than happy with, especially since I no longer have a payment.

I am going to file a report with NHTSA and Ford. As for knowing about the updated design, I have a coworker with a 2013 F150 so I will look at his. My brother also has a 2014 F250 with the rear defrost, but I am not sure if the design is the same, I know the glass itself is different, but the frame looks the same.
