to those getting their rear glass replaced, did any have aftermarket tint? here's what I posted in another thread.

I took it in (got it towed) because my power steering assist, hill decent and AdvanceTrac was flashing on my dash. the truck's power steering went out so I called Ford roadside and they towed it in. while I was talking to the service rep about all of those things wrong, I told him about my rear defroster. Again, it works only 3 lines of it doesn't so I figured while I was there, have them take a look at it. he said they'll take a look. This was on a Thursday, early morning before work. I get a call from them stating they'll be able to fix the truck, but not until Monday, offered no rental or no compensation (not that I was expecting it but hopefully they could be courteous in how I would be without my truck for 4.5 days). I get a call Monday afternoon stating the truck is fixed and I can pick it up. He says everything was fixed but I was denied my rear defroster being fixed under warranty. they claim it was damaged by the local tint shop. I bought it during the winter last year, I did not get tint until late spring time. In that period of time, I used my defroster at times and it had the problem then. I did not take a picture of it nor did I take it in. I tell them that and still, at that they won't fix it. Talked to the service manager which was no help and told me the same thing. I reach out on here to a rep along with twitter. A rep calls me and is echoing the same thing about the tint shop. I tell him the it was doing it BEFORE the tint was installed. they basically don't believe me. Before we got off the phone he said Ford can probably cover 50% of the cost to replace the whole glass. I said no, 100% covered under warranty is how it should be handled. He tells me he would call me back in a few days once he's investigating it fully. It's been 2 weeks and no call.

No aftermarket tint on mine. No stickers. No decals. Nothing.

Just got my BBB Welcome packet. Window tint has no disturbance with the defroster. There are enough claims made with both that it has been deemed a faulty part and ford needs to buck up and cover it

In the USA, Ford is signed up to use arbitration via BBB. Thats were I am headed with my poor ac! I started the process and then stopped since they agreed to replace some parts that they felt were the issue. Did not help so its back to the BBB arbitration.

For you guys making the claim on the insurance, it has more of an impact than you think. Nothing if free!

Claiming on insurance is what Ford wants, they are wanting to avoid a multi million dollar recall on trucks with issues for exploding glass, plus insurance won't cover mine as the glass isn't broken. Not to mention premiums will go up next reinstatement period typically only hosing the consumer. Will be filling this out tonight and getting the ball rolling as no one can seem to help, and to add to the problem, just got my truck back from having the seat track and seat element replaced, got in and the whole plastic side trim broke, I called and they said, yhea, someone's been in there before and mangled it we just zip tied it, we will go ahead and eat parts...this truck was not ever in the shop for any seat issues other than the work they did. The fact the flat out lied then hoped their zip tie fix would repair it without me noticing is bs. AWFULLY nice for them to go ahead and cover it on their dime...😒

Default Another one bites the dust

My driver's side rear window blew this morning.

Here's the text from my complaint to NTHSA, which Ford even suggested:

"Using the factory remote, I started the 2013 Ford F150 for first time of the day 12/18/14 and entered vehicle 5 minutes later. Put key in column ignition. Did not touch any controls. With the transmission still in PARK, a very loud noise occurred. One section of the rear window / backlite had shattered top to bottom, edge to edge.
The outdoor temperature was 24F, the heat setting was 67F. Vehicle was backed into driveway with garage behind. Nothing could have hit the window from the outside and the vehicle hadn't moved, yet the glass practically exploded.
There are many similar experiences shared on several internet forums involving years 2010 forward of the same model truck -- same generation. Ford has not created a TSB and there isn't a recall, and Ford has made no indication that they will do anything about it. They referred me back to a dealer to document the damage.

Local Ford dealer told me afterward that the rear window defrost turns on automatically with the remote start feature. Now driver visibility is obscured and I'm concerned about the safety of the electrical heating element. Reportedly fires have occurred with this situation. I won't be using the rear defrost under any circumstances -- even in northern Illinois, in the winter.

It seems most owners have been denied warranty claims because Ford stated the damage was to glass, which isn't covered under the warranty. The glass isn't the problem, its the evidence.
Ford said it is up to the dealer to determine if the damage is due to a manufacturer's defect to get replacement under warranty. The dealer service manager told me they submit a warranty claim with photos to Ford which will either approve or deny the claim. The dealer quoted $800.00 installed to replace the entire backlite assembly. The two different stories are troubling. I'm already preparing myself for the run-around."

I thought about not using mine (rear defroster), then I thought, you only live once. If it blows it blows, I'd fight the dealer/ford to get it fixed!
