I had my rear window replaced by the dealer a few weeks ago due to the defroster not working (covered under ESP). Service manager said they see the exploding glass all the time.

If I'm correct the Rear Defroster is suppose to automatically shut off after so many minutes. Like 10 minutes.
I see it's an older truck but my 2012 FX-4 and my New 2014 Lariat shut of automatically after I think 10 minutes.
I always thought there was a time limit??
It turns off the Rear Window Defroster, Left drivers mirror, and heated seats??
Can't say for certain about the seats?

Mirrors and rear window defrost Normally go off after 10-15 mins.,not sure if this is true in our trucks. Heated seats stay untill you turn them of or turn off the ignition.

My dealer said they never get Ford to cover glass after 12k miles. I sent in a claim with at least 20 pictures anyway. While i was waiting to hear back my wife (who is much more level headed when dealing with these types of things over the phone) called Ford customer service and filed a claim above the dealer. My dealer called literally 5 hours later and said it was covered and they've never seen Ford cover it before.
A few thoughts in my head-
Ford is starting to realize this is a larger problem than first observed
My wife is a BAMF
Ford dealerships actually have more say when it comes to what is authorized for warranty than they say they do.
For the last week i've have cardboard and red duct tape on my window waiting for the replacement, but at least i'm not paying for it.

Just got a call back from my dealer confirming the rear window needs to be replaced in order to fix the defrost - which I was expecting to hear. Unfortunately I am several months out of warranty, even though I have less than 34K kms on it. I was quoted $610 CAD + tax to replace it (including install) and he is checking to see if he can get me an aftermarket unit a little less.

I was totally not expecting to put out the $$$ to replace the window right now, but $600 is much better than the $1K+ I was expecting.

Now, what kind of warranty should I get with the new glass? Who's to say this won't happen again?

I'll find out in the morning.

My insurance covers all glass at no deductible.
