Exploding rear window
My rear window was 120 dllrs used INSTALLED and new was 200 INSTALLED... talking about he rear window. I used to have the straight glass no window and I opted for the one with the window.
Font windshield NEW was 120 without the f150 logo. 150 with logo.
.. stop going to the dealer and look for local auto glass shops..
Nice work and excellent video - appreciate the time and effort! No 'explosion' yet, but the defrost no longer works so I have an appointment with the dealer in 2 weeks - curious to hear what they say (think I already know the answer though). Once I realize I can't live without the rear defogger and Ford's not going to fix it I may just follow your lead.
Had my windows replaced on Friday and they were kind enough to allow me to watch the process inside the bay at Safelite. I noticed that the new window came with some instructions on how to hook it up differently. Unfortunately, they came up missing before I could ****** them up or else I would have scanned it and posted them up in this thread. It seems that in the instructions, they have you bypass the grounding connector that is right next to the hot wire in the lower passenger side corner. You can see what I am talking about in the above posted video at about the 15:20 mark. It looked like there were 3 wires coming out of the glass side of the big blue connector in the wiring harness (mine was a 2010, other years may be different). One wire was the hot, the other 2 were a reed switch (Saflite's guy calling it that, I'm just going with it) and the ground wire. They clipped the reed switch wire and ground wire and twisted them together creating a loop of wire coming out of the connector. The changes the defroster circuit from having a ground and hot about an inch from each other in that corner to having just the hot there and the ground is over in the lower corner on the drivers side. Not sure if it has to do with the high temps in the windows and potentially causing this condition or not, but I figured I would pass it along in case anyone with a 2010 model (other years may apply) that has not had the issue yet may be able to do this mod to hopefully prevent this from happening to them.
I joined the club today.
Auto started my truck and let it warm up for 7-10 min, and got in with my 2 year old daughter and put it in reverse and POP. My daughter's head was 6-8" from it.
Dealer said no warranty as it 12k/12months.
I think after all is said and done i'm going to remove my mods and trade it in.
I'm done with the shudder and loss of power, lack of power after intercooler replacement, fuel in oil, major paint defects, and now exploding glass.....
