On my truck it was the driver side that blew out so unfortunately that isn't the answer.
Ford fixed mine but I had to fight for it. It passes me off that we even have to ask to have it covered so I showed my disgust by dealing it for a Ram.
No more exploding rear window.

Update on mine, insurance had Safelite replace mine and it is warranted for as long as I own it now. Worth checking into for anyone else having the problem.

I drove around with my window taped up for about a month before it got covered. Multiple messages and phone calls with Ford resulted in it getting covered. That being said, on my 2014, I will NOT be turning on the rear defroster.

Regarding exploding windows:

I'd go to your Ford dealer and bring this up:

My passenger side rear window shattered yesterday in my 2011 F150 with $87,500 miles on it! The light on the rear defrost button has recently quit working. Anyways it was pouring rain yesterday when I left my hunting club and my windows were fogged up. I pushed the button to see if the light magically worked and it didn't. After that I forgot about it until 3/4 of the way home when I heard a loud pop like a rock hitting the windshield. Shortly thereafter I noticed the rear glass. Anyways I took it to my local dealership who is usually good about helping me out but they said Ford wouldn't do anything and told me to take it to a auto glass store.

New member of the forum here, signed in just weigh in on this, truck is a 2010 F150 SC...

Had my passenger side rear glass (power slider, defrost) spiderweb on me today. Similar situation as most I have read in this thread, cold and rainy, notice the rear is getting foggy, hit the button and 2-3 minutes later I thought I was being shot at. Didn't notice at first and made it home (glass stayed in place...for now). Wife runs out to pick up kids from school, comes in and tells me the window is shattered. From the outside, you can barely tell...glass is just a bit wavy, from the inside it looks frosted over until you take a good look at it. I called up my dealer as I bought the extended warranty when I bought the truck used 2 years ago (and have used the rear defrost 100's of time here in northern Indiana during the 2 winters I have had it) and they give me the song and dance a bit about the warranty and the glass not being covered in it. Left a message with the head service manager to call me back. In the mean time, I called up Safelite to start getting some numbers. After working with the scheduling/sales rep for a little bit, she is able to get the cost for them to replace it down from $568.95 plus tax and such to $554.44 out the door. I need it done quickly as with Thanksgiving coming up, I need it for the family meal circuit. I give the sales rep the name and location of my dealership, she says that they are in their system and that I could see if I could push it all through the dealer and still have Safelite do the replacement. When the service manager calls back, he confirms that my warranty in this case won't do me any good, and furthermore, it will be a week or 2 before they can get me in to do the replacement. Never got a price from him, after reading some of these posts, I now have a morbid curiosity as to how bad it would have been.

Anyway, after telling him that this was not satisfactory with me due to my holiday schedule, I ask him about the Safelite option, as they said they could get me in tomorrow or Wednesday and have it replaced as they already had the sliders in stock (the saleslady said they had already replaced about a dozen in the area since we started getting colder weather in the area). He took the number and my open work order with Safelite and made the arrangements, he then had me bring the truck into the dealership so they could document it and try to run it up to corporate to see if there is anything that they will do (watch me hold my breath on that). In the end, I'll be getting Safelite to do the replacement and getting their "as long as I own the truck" warranty on the replacement, the damage is now documented in the Ford system and will help reduce any heartburn if they finally do have a recall on this (how long did it take before they did that ignition switch recall years ago?), and I get to pay for it through the dealership and apply some credits I had for other work I had done to my wifes vehicle to help take some of the sting out of it all. Royal PITA and the timing could hardly be worse for this. But it is what it is at this point, just waiting to see where this ride takes me.

I have seen many asking about why they couldn't just replace one pane of glass instead of doing the whole window. According to what Safelite said, the frame of the entire back glass is a one piece, welded unit and to get the glass out, it would need to be cut and then re-welded. Not saying that it is fact, just putting out there what I was told a few hours ago.

In all, I was happy to see that this wasn't another "this just happens to me" issue, but a little ticked that this hasn't been addressed by Ford a bit better. I logged this occurrence with the NHTSA just so there is a record of it there to help the process of a possible recall somewhere down the road, but won't my breath there either.

Exactly why i went with Safelite, my truck has 80,000 plus miles so warranty was a no go. Dealer quoted me almost $1000 to replace it, Safelite was around $550. Wound up getting it covered through insurance. But stuck with Safelite because of the warranty.
