Default Experience with High mileage F150

I'm considering the purchase of a 2013 F150 with the 3.5 liter Ecoboost engine with over 180,000 miles. Anyone with direct knowledge of longevity and issues with this truck?

Thanks

I know personally of 3 that have gone over 200k with good general maintenance and have seen several others here on this forum that have done the same. Not many of us drive that much that quick (Ecoboost came out in 2011) but there are a number of them that have made it there just fine.

I'd ask for detailed service history and pay to have it gone over thoroughly to make sure there aren't any issues to speak of. Also ask if the timing chain TSB has been done.

What's the timing TSB for specifically, what were the issues, and since you have the Platinum, how much better are the HID headlights from the standard ones?

Timing chain and cam phasers replaced. As long as oil is changed out regularly (5-6000 miles) then it should be good. The timing chain and cam phasers do not like to play dirty.

The HID's are 100x better than the stock halogens. I was driving in the mountains/national forests this weekend at night and they were as bright as my rzr 30" led bar. Every time I am able to use them in that dark of a setting and I am impressed.

Reasons?

I would buy it depending on price and how it started from cold start. 180,000 mile vehicle with any vehicle could have issues. Just depends on OP plan for this. I wouldn't buy a 180,000 mile vehicle unless it was a short term daily or a beater that I had plans for but wasn't going to be my daily. You could get a long lasting vehicle and you could inherit some issues.

I am guessing it will be a good vehicle if it doesn't have timing chain rattle and good service history.

2014 f150 ecoboost with 126,500 miles here. No problems other than needing 2 coils about 5k miles ago. Oil changes every 5k on the nose.

2012 F-150 Ecoboost 99876 miles. Haven't had a single issue with the Truck since I bought it. I'm always ahead of schedule on the maintenance to a T and document it.

Personally I’d stay away from anything with mileage that high. It wouldn’t be the engine that worries me, but other things like sensors, gaskets and bearings that could nickel and dime you.

See if they replaced the steering rack yet.
