Exhaust ideas

Alright guys so my next mod will be an exhaust for my truck. I'm not set on anything yet but I wanna see some pictures of different setups. I can't decide if i wanna run it out the side or straight back. Anybody have any pictures or suggestions they wanna share? I have the 5.0 if that matters.

I was in the same dilemma and ended up deciding against both. I went with the Flowmaster and put turndowns on instead.

AnthonyWHAT 03-19-2014 09:25 PM

I cant wait to see the responses for this thread, as Exhaust will be one of the first mods I do as well!

I'm really liking the sound of Borla's exhaust systems, just not sure which one to pick. I dont want something too aggressive, just something to let ya know a truck is coming. Lets see those pics everyone...

Interesting. How does it sound?

xSTICKBOYx 03-19-2014 09:39 PM

It's pretty loud but it's what I wanted. I have the 5.4.

I'm looking for something pretty loud. Might have to look in to that setup. Thanks.

If you want want something loud then you may want to check into the Roush. I have it and it was pretty loud. I actually had to add a wave resonator pipe to mine to tone it down a little.

Yea I like the roush from what I have seen but might be a little more than what I wanna spend.

It is expensive, but I liked the way it hooked up and it is different. If I were doing it over I would probably choose one of the others, but they seem to be about the same or close to the price of the Roush. My muffler shop wanted 450.00 for a Magnaflow and two tips out the back. So then another 200.00 didn't seem that bad for the Roush.

The Borla S Type is pretty close to their loudest (the ATAK.)

I have heard the ATAK on YouTube videos and that is the one I probably would have gone with. There is a member on this forum that posted the video and he loves it.

Thanks! I think it was $670 from Stage3 after $30 off promotion.

$698 right now and the $30 promotion is still going: http://www.stage3motorsports.com/998...h-Exhaust.html

philupondes 03-21-2014 09:09 AM

I had a siso Mangaflow 4x9x14 3" and it was pretty loud. Friend of mine had a roush and he use to say it hated that he way over spent and wished that he would had gone my route. I think I had $150 in the entire setup and that's with labor and all.

philupondes 03-21-2014 09:11 AM

I'm going to say if you spend over $300 for exhaust work you are an idiot. There is no reason a man should be out here buying $700 exhaust systems when they can be made for 1/3 the price. That's just my on opinion.

Jmorgan 03-21-2014 09:35 AM

Yea I'm defiantly not trying to spend that much. Seems pretty crazy to me.

zimmer0 03-21-2014 09:43 AM

dynatech splitflow here with a 5" tip dumped but tucked high for a cleaner look. Corsa Sport sound for a fraction of the cost.

Find me an exhaust shop that uses stainless steel and can do mandrel bends...

kroberts2131 03-21-2014 07:04 PM

I have a flow master 40 series dumped at the rear axle. SIDO. Sounds good in the truck and at idle but you can't hardly hear it if your in another car driving nearby. For 118 OTD, I'm more than happy with it. May upgrade to a cat back later on.

And on an other wise stock truck none of those matter. The stock exhaust piping is fine, rather corrosion resistant and flows just fine. You could even polish it if you so choose. The only thing youre gaining is a lighter wallet by going with a catback opposed to buying a muffler and your tip of choice. IMO

Wannafbody 03-22-2014 12:35 AM

I'd buy a stainless steel system if the truck is gonna be driven in the winter.

The stock exhaust is stainless steel... the problem is when the exhaust shop fabs up an extension pipe to weld in an aftermarket muffler, they are going to use aluminized pipe which will rust after only one winter of salt and snow and probably rot through in a couple of years.

Earlsays 03-22-2014 01:40 AM

My setup is this...

True dual, factory cats and oxygen sensors are untouched....

2.5 inch

Magnaflow Tru-X X pipe

Dynomax Race Bullet (two of them 18 inch long)

Turn downs at the rear bumper

Sounds great, drone around 1700 RPM which is horrible

LOUD!!!!

ns_redneck 03-22-2014 09:11 AM

I love my magnaflow cat back system. sounds good no drone on highway. I have put a few of these on trucks at my exhaust shop with no complaints. the borla atak sounds good too.

That's why I would spend the money on a Borla. To get the warranty and 300 series stainless steel.

Do you have any sound clips or videos? I was looking to do something very similar but I'm not looking for drone I wanna see if I can live with it.

My local shop will do flow masters for $215. Not sure if that's what I want or not but I deff will not be paying $600 for anything.

WTF150 - Find me an exhaust shop that uses stainless steel and can do mandrel bends...
They're out there, just hard to find.NOTE: Have used both.
.

gDMJoe 03-24-2014 12:32 PM

Never understood the fascination in removing/replacing a perfectly good factory, free-flowing (resonator -AND- muffler are straight-thru), stainless steel exhaust system with an after-market. http://www.gdmjoe.com/nonono.gif

There are little (if any) to no performance gains. UNLESS ... You opt for mod'ing the cylinder heads, or go forced induction, or other high $$$$$ engine modifications. Ya I know what about with a tune? 99.9% of the resulting performance gains are the result of "the tune" with the exhaust change contribution nada. *And a dyno' trumps a mail-order.

If you're doing it for the sound ... Remove the OEM muffler and install a stainless steel performance muffler that is the same length or is attached using stainless steel tubing. NEVER replace with aluminized counterparts when you start-out with stainless steel.

Anyway ... That's my opinion(s). And I'm unanimous on that. http://www.gdmjoe.com/biggrin.gif
.

Added a Magnaflow 18" and with a lot of help from members on here, I was able to get rid of the awful drone I also removed my resonator. After doing the math, I determined 33" was optimal length. I designed this to adjust anywhere from 26" to 36" by loosening the exhaust clamp. I have now welded it it permanently and it sounds great. Could not be happier. It is run out the side and looks factory.

What's going on there? Helps with drone? Never seen before.

Are there not many things we do to our trucks that offer little to no gains in anything other than looks?

i'm thinking the same thing....I've got a new 14' 5.0 and i want sound...im thinking of replacing muffler with flowmaster super 44 and some dual side exits...

question i have that i haven't gotten answered yet...is: will replacing oem muffler and tailpipe (and removing resonator) void the ford warranty? (my truck only has 250 miles on it. lol

Custom tune will absolutely give you gains. Removing OEM muffler and resonator lets the truck breath better, gains may be nominal, but now it sounds like a truck!

It will not void your entire warranty, however they would probably deny warranty coverage for components related to your exhaust system should they fail. I.e. if your cats or muffler fail, etc. It's all going to depend on your dealer.

Gibson Mulisha

i put.a.mulisha exhaust in mine, not legal in all 50, but its better than the "R" system far.as the droning. It rumbles when you get on it and you soumd lime a.v8 should sound, throaty meaty and bad-assed.At idle its tame with a.low rumble to her. And its not Corsa money either. Corsas sound good but not on the wallet imo....
