Default Exhaust

I'm thinking I want to upgrade my exhaust. Mostly for the sound. I have a 2014 screw 5.0.

I'm not really able to afford say, the rousch kit. My real question is could I get an exhaust shop to chop my resonator and muffler out of the stock exhaust and weld in a pipe and a flowmaster?

Or am I way off base?

I went with the 3.5" diamond eye stainless catback and I love it. You could absolutely do that and many people on here do that too.

I had that done as well...had a shop cut out the resonator and put in a straight pipe to a Borla Pro XS muffler. Then cut off the stock tip and weld in a new one. I had them leave as much stock piping as they could to cut down cost and because the stock piping is good stuff. Less than 400 bucks total for me.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll just have a new muffler welded in and keep the resonator.

I got a borla pro xs off ebay for 50 bucks. Had a local shop weld it in for 25. And bout a 20 dollar tip and put the borla sticker on it...after having borla on my 98 i cant bring myself to by anything else lol. But a weld in muffler is a good cheap way to go.

I chopped off the muffler and replaced it with a straight pipe (keeping the resonator) $50 and sounds great to me!

IMO, keep the resonator and replace the stock muffler with an aftermarket of your choice, or simply a piece of pipe, depending on the tone and/or volume you are after.
