Years back when I was wrenching, I found that rods and wrist pins will knock as the rpm's increase under load. Then, after reving, if it knocks as the engine is coming back down to idle, it is the crank bearings and thrust bearing. So, going up is rod/piston and going down is crank. Just at idle, I would find out which main bearing is the thrust bearing. The crank could be thumping forward and back. Is it a problem? It might just be a noisy block design once it wears in a bit. Aluminum is much louder than cast iron is.

I've posted numerous times about my 5.0 knock and included a video. I understand the difference of injectors doing their job and something mechanically wrong.listen to my truck.right at the end the knock is clearest on the passenger side fender well. You can hear it in person better from inside of the cab even. I did get a chance to listen to a couple of other people's 5.0s and they are quiet and knock free.mine is at the dealership as I type being diagnosed.even the techs said it isn't normal.it helps that I have a little mechanic knowledge I guess so I knew right away my knock wasn't normal.

I thought I was going to be able to provide a non ticking 5.0 video for you but when I went to shoot the video I deff heard some ticking. Can't hear it much in beginning when I am on driver side. I move to passenger side and hear a fast paced ticking. Almost sounds like a pulley or something. I've had the truck over a year and never noticed this until now. Either way, if I had to put my trust in the longevity of all the engine options offered for the F150, it would be the 5.0 for sure.

Suggestion: get a mechanic stethoscope from any auto parts store or harbors freight, $5-$25, or a metal rod that will transmit sound (long screwdriver) and really listen to top & bottom of engine & you probably could record it also

If it's knocking that loud and has been for a while, next oil change get a UOA and see how much metal is in the oil, I would guess there would Be a fair amount. Maybe not but seems to me it would be causing irregular wear.
