Default EPS Help!

Recently my 2012 f150 xl has developed a squeak/roughness while turning the wheel. The sound comes and goes and ive noticed more play in the wheel and a rougher steer overall. Since the truck is out of warranty I'm about to bite the bullet and order a new eps. Does anyone know if its more than just swapping it out and hard reseting the whole system by hooking a jumper wire to the positive and negative or do you actually have to reprogram the steering?

Are you sure it is the EPAS that is failing or possibly some other steering component?

The EPAS from what I have read, does need to be reprogrammed.

just for smiles and giggles....there is a portion of the steering assembly which connects to the rack via universal joint. It has a telescoping shock type design to allow for suspension travel. That universal joint can rust to the point that you'll get a whole lotta play in the steering wheel. Have you checked it?

I had this issue on my '08, I'd have to oil the steering shaft every month or so to keep it moving until I replaced it.

I took the u joint connection off and it seemed to rotate smoothly, by hand i can grab the output shaft coming out of the rack and move it and thats where the squaking and roughness comes from i will post a video up to see if that gives the issue away
