Unless your third party warranty covers it, you're on your own. I tried unplugging it and steering but it seemed to be a little easier with the EPAS at least trying to help out.

[QiUOTE=ktrahan11;5351544]this just happened to me yesterday and I don't understand who to talk to at ford to get this worked on.[/QUOTE]
had mine towed into ford this morning and they're taking a look at it. I've been told from everyone else it'll be $1600-2000 from the dealership but my trusted local mechanics quoted me 1200 max, so may be towing right back out

I had the exact same thing happen to my 2011 F150 and I am still in the process of trying to get Ford to right their wrong. It has been well over a week since I last sent Ford Customer service an email and I have yet to get anything in return. It cost me close to 1700 to repair the EPAS after it went out suddenly in July. I have jumped through the same hoops as Bigmike67 to no avail. My steering locked up all of a sudden while I was driving with my 4 year old in the vehicle. I barely avoided hitting another vehicle head on since it happened right as I was turning left into an intersection. I had to fight with the steering to get us safely back to my house. From there the vehicle was completely immobile because it had absolutely no steering capability. This is so ridiculously dangerous!!! I am fed up with the lack of response from Ford.

Sadly 4 years after you posted this, Ford has still done absolutely nothing in regards to fixing this problems or alerting drivers. Your post was the most info I could find on this after it happened to my 11 F150 in July.

Your truck is 6 years old, do you honestly expect a machine to last for ever?
.

For $45,000 I personally expect a lot more than 6 years of service. That's pathetic.

It's not just Ford. A co-worker has a Chevy Malibu with the same issues. Power assist gives out with no warning. He pulls over, shuts it off and restarts to get it back. He went through a recall/fix on it, but it still does it.

EPAS is still "new". Give it 20 years and maybe they will be as bulletproof as the old hydraulic systems. Maybe.

It's one of the reasons I bought a truck with the 6.2L engine- old school power steering.

I have had the same exact issue with my 2013 f150 fx2. I love ford. It sucks that I think I am going to fix my truck and sell it.....

I don't understand how ford does not own up to this mistake?? I would completely understand if ford would disclose this possible defect with buyers considering this problem seems to have surfaced a long time ago.

The upstairs shower drain in my 1.5 year old house is leaking, for $300,000 I expect a lot more than 1.5 years of service.

If you expect any vehicle to have zero issues or failures in 6 years then I suggest you sell said vehicle and purchase a good pair of shoes to get you around. Ah, wait, even those will fail in a year or two.

Do you have to purchase the steering through ford or is there a alternative?
