I don't think the stock tires are rated to go much more than 95 mph anyway.

I've bounced mine off the speed limiter as well. Looked like 96 or 97mph. I don't plan on getting rid of it with a programer. My old chevy truck had the same limiter and I had a programer for the tune and raising the speed limiter to 128mph. Going over 100 isn't all that important to me anymore....

That's why it is governed at this point - the maximum speed rating of the tire.

Can't see why anyone would need to go that fast in a truck.

Here is what I found on the 2011 tires...

S rated tires, such as the Pirelli Scorpion ATR 275/55-20 stock tires, are rated to 112 mph.

H rated tires, such as the Pirelli Scorpion ATR 275/65-18 stock tires, are rated to 130 mph.

Even if the tires are rated for it, do you want to go that fast? What happens if you need to swerve for some reason? All that weight that high in the air is an accident waiting to happen.

Wow, thats nuts. My 1989 F-150 with the 4.9L tops out at around 105MPH due to aerodynamics and gears. The newer trucks should be faster...

The new trucks ARE faster but they are artificially limited by the governor (also known as a speed limiter).

It would be cool to see a 5.0, Ecoboost, and a 6.2 tested on a track with the speed limiter disabled.

I would bet 115 to 120 would be attainable before drag exceeded the horsepower. (yes, that's just an uneducated guess)

probably faster than that. I would easily say 130 or so, simply because of the aerodynamics of the truck. I mean, it's not as aerodynamic as a Corvette or anything, but the airflow around it is worlds better than an F150 made in the mid 90's, LOL

if my 4wd 4cyl Toyota Pickup I use to have can do 105mph, I wouldn't doubt that my 2wd V8 Ford F150 could push 130 OR MORE, provided it had tires rated for that speed, and enough open road to do it in

but yeah I totally agree; no reason you should be needing the truck to go that fast anyway... even if you're drag racing, you'll need to have some serious mods done before you start getting near 95mph in the 1/4 mile with these trucks

It was just a curiosity for me, my 2001 f150 had no such limiter. And my corvette certainly doesn't. This is the first vehicle I've owned with a limiter, and though higher speeds really aren't important in the truck, it just surprised me to find the new f150s have this limiter.

I'll definitely be adjusting my driving style when I get my new truck! I drove a BMW 335i before I deployed.
