Default 2013 EcoBoost troubles, in for service

I have less than 5,000 miles on my 2013 XLT EcoBoost, built in April, and it’s going in for service already. This is the third new vehicle (second turbo charged) I have purchased and is the only vehicle I have ever had to take in for service. Typically I can handle maintenance and minor work myself.

I am taking it in for three issues, possibly related, I am not a Ford tech so I will leave it up to them to figure it out.

1) Idles rough in park after sitting for a couple hours, feels like its misfiring

2) Feels like the engine is starved when trying to maintain a speed of 55-65 while driving up a slight incline, in 6th gear. It actually feels like what would happen if you up shifted to early in a turbo vehicle, for those of you who have owned a manual transmission turbo car before.

3) I punched it to merge into fast moving traffic last week on a drive down to NC for vacation, the CEL started flashing and the engine went into limp mode. It was raining.

So far owning a truck has been great and extremely useful but the EcoBoost has been a pretty big disappointment.

1 & 2. Could very well be related to incorrect Spark Plug Gaps! 3. Sounds like CAC issue! IMO

ggf150,

I'd like to loop in your regional customer service manager. Could you please PM me your name, phone number, VIN, mileage, and dealer info?

I have been waiting for this post. Thanks. My 2011 EB is going to get traded in next year due to these problems. If Ford had managed to fix them for the 2013 model year, I was probably going to buy another one. As more of these issues get reported, my mind is being made up as to what the replacement will be.

@ ggf150,

I hope they resolve your issue. I just came out of a 2012 F150 3.5L Eco 4x4 Screw and had it in the shop many times for the same issues. They did the TSB replacing the CAC, left cat, etc.. and the problem still existed and to top it off I lost a lot of the power with the truck. My new 2013 is now the 5.0L and I am much happier!

Good luck with it and mine has a slight rough idle to it every so often but knock on wood I've had no problems. I have 13,000 right now and mine was built in January.

I really hope it doesn't come to that for me. My wife just lost her job and I probably couldn't flip the deprecation lost. I wouldn't go Ford again though.

Sorry to hear about your problems, I wish I was in the US like you because I had a horror story with an Escape that I lost my pants on, thanks Ford, Don't know what the rules are for lemon law in the US but if I could I'd be all over it. I'm sure you won't be the first in the US to do so. Canadian government has to get on to the same thing so we can follow suit with lemons.
