Default Ecoboost vs 6.2 long term

Looking to order a new 2013 F150 and am deciding between the Ecoboost with the 3.55 vs the 6.2 with the 3.73. If I get the EB I will put a tune in it but with 6.2 I will just keep it stock. my questions is I plan on keeping this truck for at least 10 years and an worried about replacing turbo's,intercoolers, plumbing, and so on with all the extra parts on the turbo. I really want the EB but I feel the 6.2 is the smarter choice for less chance of problems down the road and especialy since I can not trust my self to keep it stock . Any thoughts?

I think that is just something that is yet to be seen. You may get many strong opinions on here but only time will truly tell. I will tell you though, I used to be a diesel tech and turbos last quite a bit longer then most people think for some reason. The biggest thing that killed older turbos was oil starvation but these turbos are oil AND liquid cooled so that becomes less of a concern. In theory, you are right....there are a few less moving parts for the 6.2 but I would not choose based loosely off of that. I say go with the eb if that is what you really want. If it troubles you during the warranty period then get rid of it.

I am an ecoboost owner and if I did it again Id think I would go with the 6.2 myself only for the exact reason you are asking. I'm just curious as to how this will hold up long term. It has not given me any issues yet but I am pretty nervous with it off road which not that I plan on submerging this thing in mud, but I'm afraid after doing it for a few years is when I'm going to see issues.

It makes great power no doubt and I love this motor right now, but down the road its two more turbos, intercoolers, oil lines etc... down that road that I'm worried about replacing.

Again I love my truck, but if I were to do it again I think I would go the 6.2 route, hope that helps

I would go with the Ecoboost again. 99% of the time you will be driving it down a road and getting good MPG and have a good truck. If I have any problems with it then I would trade it in and get something else. No big deal as I am not really attached to any one truck...they make new ones every day. Truck payment is a truck payment...

Subaru has been doing Turbo gas engines for years, and they run forever.

You and I have the same philosophy.

Just food for thought 1st the 6.2 is only available in a few high end models 2nd the the EB actualy has fewer moving moving parts than 6.2 3rd unless you tow twenty four seven the fuel savings alone would buy you a new truck over the prjected life of the truck 4th keep in mind Ford offers 2 other engine choices so depending on your needs you could look at a 5.0 or 3.7 any of the 4 will do the job they are desighned for

There is no guarantee that choosing one engine over the other will eliminate trouble down the road. Even brand vs. brand. Its all luck really. Drive them both and pick what you like.

I can tell you that the EB is pretty sweet when tuned.
