Default Ecoboost uses premium fuel only?

Is this the case? Also, I have seen the questions regarding the wood grain interior colors. I would like to order a black lariat with the black leather interior. Does anyone have a definite answer on whether or not the blond color is for both adobe and black interiors? Thanks for the assistance.

Edit: FWIW, I called the Ford marketing dept. and was told that ecoboost does require premium fuel. They did not know whether or not the black interior on the lariat came with the blond wood grain accents. My dealer is supposed to call me tomorrow with some info.

From owners manual:

3.5L V6 EcoBoostTM engine
Your vehicle is designed to run on regular fuel with an octane rating of 87 or higher. For best overall performance, premium fuel with an octane rating of 91 or higher is recommended. The performance gained by using premium fuel will be most noticeable in hot weather or in severe duty applications such as towing a trailer.

Fwiw ford mechanics say it uses regular unleaded. owners manual says regular unleaded, AND go to www.ford.com/trucks/f150/specifications/engine/
And it says and I quote "recommended fuel. unleaded regular".

So no the eb does NOT require premium fuel.

Thanks, guys. Used to have a Honda Accord while I was in college that recommended premium fuel and used regular. Got 180,000 miles out of it with no problem.

To add to the wood in the lariat part of the question, the 3 I looked at all had the wood. Mine has the Ebony interior and unfortunately the blonde wood grain also. Not a deal breaker tho, figure there has to be a replacement part available down the road.

Yup the blonde wood infected the entire lariat model. Also the reason I am not considering the lariat, after seeing the woodgrain in person I liked it even less.

Why not just get a FX2 with the ecoboost or an FX4 with ecoboost so you have the black leather and black accents.

Thats exactly what I was looking at, originally off previous years models I knew I would get either a FX, a lariat, or a king ranch. The woodgrain on the lariat just bothers me too much and I am not gonna buy something then immediately cover it up with an after market kit. I really like the FX interior but had two concerns, seats are only heated and not cooled (I live in SW Texas and its a lot hotter than it is colder), and the fact I have read several people having issues with the pleather in the F150's. I have always loved the KR interior. I have saddles and other leather gear so already have the cleaners and conditioners, and I think the real leather will last longer and I plan on having the truck for a long time. So KR won in the end (but FX2 was a very close second).

Good info!

This makes a lot of sense to me; why would they come out with an engine labled 'Eco', rave about its fuel economy, and then tell you...Oh, BTW, you have to use the Hi-test stuff in the tank!!??

I am just taking a stab in the dark here, but I guess you must be able to use the E85 flex-fuel in this engine too?? That fuel is 105+ octane, which would solve the problem of anyone concerned about towing on a hot day, and not break the bank.
