I hope that fixes it on yours, new properly gapped plugs didn't fix mine. They also replaced the coils at that time. The factory plugs were gapped from .32-.44... My question has always been, if this is their premium engine how does this happen? How do you build a $50,000 truck and not have appropriately gapped plugs?

you guys might be right, I think I will take it in and let them check for the plugs and coil,,it might be more than just gap. I sure hope it is something covered under my warranty. But if it is and they fix it it will be nice to see a difference in my trucks performance, especially towing. I agree about the $55k truck I bought. If it is plugs/coil that would be sad as hell and pretty lame for FORD and UAW!

+1 plug gap. although newer years ford started gapping tighter. But ive still seen stock plug gaps all over the place. Or could be the crappy stock tune. Mine would do that stock somtimes but usually only when wot and downshifting. ex: entering freeway

It will be covered under warranty. It is considered a part of you powertrian which is covered for 60k miles.

Be sure to tell the service writer that you think it is the coils. If at all possible, ask to speak with the technician that will be working on it or have them call you before he does if is going to another day before they can get to it. Your best bet is talking to the technician because usually service writers will not even deliver any message you tell them and will just write the work order up and move on to the next.

You would be surpised how many technicians would not even bother to check the coils as bad. Explain to technician (in a nice way) that you have heard that other F-150 owners have had bad coils and replacement of bad coils fixed the issue. Remember to try not to act like you are telling him how to do his job, he will just get insulted and defensive. Convey it in a way that he is the expert and professional, but you are just letting him know what you have heard. It would probably best to end what you say with "I am just telling you what I have heard to give you more information , but you are the professional and I am sure you will test everything to be sure." It is all about how you say things and how other people perceive what you are saying.

That's great advice. Always catch more flies with honey. The other thing I had to learn to resist was the urge to get upset when they'd look me dead in the eye and lie. Saying that they'd never heard about these issues. I found out it wasnt true the more times I went back for repairs and spoke to other owners in the service department.

My advice would be to document and save everything. Don't do like I did and let it drag out for 19 visits. After the third attempt give them a final repair attempt letter. I'm not one to say every Eco is bad but I'd hate to not share what I learned if it could help someone else. I hope that when you take your truck in they're able to fix it and you don't ever have another issue. So if you save and document everything you will have it if you need it, if they fix it you can throw it all out. Good luck man

thanks for the advice. I will try and speak with tech. It feels like a bad plug or maybe a coil.. but either way it is sad that a brand new truck with such little mileage is already having issues. Makes you wonder how in the heck F150 is best seller for 30+ years..My SD went many miles before any real service. Oh well I am not the only one with issues,, misery loves company!

This is second time it has done this..For those who may experienced this,,would you say its spark plugs, catalytic converter or what? Seems I get the same hesitation (normal driving) when going from 3rd to 4th under acceleration. I am calling dealer Friday to schedule but any input would be nice if someone had this same issue and what did it take to repair or fix..Thanks!
Here is my experience so far on my 2012 Eco. On the way home from work there is a hill that has about 2% grade and is a little less than a ¼ mile. About half way up the hill in 6th gear going 55 MPH when the engine starts getting a load on it the shaking starts. It will not unlock the torque converter or shift down to 5th unless I press down on the gas pedal harder and then it will shift into 5th but then I am going faster than the posted speed limit. If I start up the hill under 55 MPH then when the engine starts to load up the torque converter will unlock and it’s fine going up the hill.

Anyway my dealer has pulled the plugs and checked the gaps, reprogramed it, replaced the CAC, and fuel injectors. Finally they got a Field Service Engineer from Louisville KY to come up and check it out. Luckily I stopped by the dealership to get something out of my truck when he arrived. He ran it through all the tests to verify that the truck didn’t have any misfires or issues before he explained to me what the truck was doing and there is a program update coming out the first of August. He said the EPA was testing it and had to approve it first before Ford could release it to the dealers. It is supposed to fix the problem my truck is having.

As anyone one else heard of this update? This was really nice and sure acted like he knew his stuff and I hope he wasn’t blowing me smoke. He also told me that if the updated did not fix my truck he would be back to take care of it. Right now I am going to give him the benefit of doubt and hope he is right.
I hope I explained this right. I know what I want to say but sometimes have a hard time typing it.
