just take note,
If you buy an ecoboost in a state that requires two plates. they mount your plate on the driver side bumper cover, not in the middle like all the other trucks v8 or v6 engine trucks. There must be a reason why FORD has done this. It actually cost more to have to two different set of parts for a simple license plate mount. A simple license plate mount that is not is the front to block the intercooler. It was engineered opened for a reason, If ford or a dealer gives you the reason/answer doubt it.
BUT just think but it.

While shopping colors for my truck at a different dealership before ordering mine, I noticed they installed them on every new 2012 ecoboost 150 on their lot. I'm guess they figured the blank opening was kinda ****ty looking too and I'm sure they did the appropriate research.

If Ford was concerned about flow through the inter-cooler, seems like it would be designed more like a window in a wall instead of a tree stump that can be avoided.
Most fluids will tend to just go around the sides, if not forced.
Squirrels, stupid rabbits, 'dillos, and tire 'gators tend to go straight (for the hole).

I put grille on it mainly for looks, but the added protection is a small bonus.
As for the airflow, I bet the decrease is negligible. It's not flat surface so it's not going to block airflow equal to its surface area, the air will be split and speed up to go around and betwee the slats.
