ECOBOOST Mileage-Real World Pole
#21
When I was at the dealer having my leveling kit and new tires installed I actually got to talk to one of the Ford Techs. He said for some reason just about all the trucks with the Ecoboost when they hit around 15K miles, that it comes alive. He said alot of owners come in and complain that something is wrong with their truck, because they say it has more power than before, and that it's finally getting better mpg. Now, I'm just 10K shy of 15K so i'll be interested to see if I have the same problem. I also added a drop in K&N air filter, hoping that I might see at least 1 mpg better.

True, I actually looked at the new Taurus SHOs. Then I thought, can I offroad in this... nope, can I pull my 7,000lb boat... nope, can I load up hay in the bed of it... nope, can I afford 2 vehicles right now... NOPE! Haha, Its kinda an occupational hazard combined with being a college student as well as driving everywhere doing design jobs.

16.9mpg life average
Best mileage recorded was 22mpg over a 250 mile trip (got this numerous times) @ 65mph
Towing mileage pulling 7000 lbs I got about 10-12mpg (and this is over the Appalachian mtns)
Towing mileage with a 6x10 trailer and 1600# Can Am Commander with full windshield I get about 14mpg
I had a 2010 5.4L FX4 (same trim as what I got now) and I never got this good of mileage. I easily get 2-3mpg better across the board with this truck.

Briefed this but your missing far too much information for this to even be a reasonable poll.
1. Cab type
2. Gear ratio
3. Bed Length
4. Tow package, dumbo mirrors?
5. Stock tires and wheels?
6. other stock accessories, added weight
7. other non-stock accessories, added weight/wind resistance
8. Tuner?
9. others I may have missed
At least if you got the top 7 then you'd have a reasonable poll, even if you added stock to some of the options...
Yep my 4.x4 3.73 heavy loaded Lariat SCREW is around 16.5, while my buddies 4x4 3.31 SCAB basic XLT is 21.5. Oh and I change appox. 1600' in elevation on my drive to work.

gwpfan is right, too many variables.
To the OP, stock 2010 with the 5.4L will be ~1-2mpg less than an equally equipped Ecoboost.
Compared to your 2010 with that lift/tires, I would think the new truck will give you close 5MPG better than your current one, but its just a guess. It really depends what kind of driving you do. But stock for stock, the new engines aren't miracle workers compared to the 4.6L and 5.4L engines in 2009/2010.
I've gone from a 2008 4.6L Screw and averaged 15.5MPG in my conditions. I went to a 2011 Ecoboost with the 3.31 rear and averaged 17.0MPG. I then went to the 2012 5.0L with the 3.73 rear and average is 16.9MPG over the life of it.
I don't think a poll is going to help you much, unless the drivers have gone from a similar setup to what you currently have and can provide a comparison. You shouldn't go in expecting to gain 10MPG because some owners are reporting 22MPG on hwy at 60mph.

Well yes, but this is a general question. I am taking into account that people have different mods. I'm considering it a general average, you're only allowed to do 12 choices per poll.

My father and I have identical trucks with the exception mine is a '10 with the 5.4 and his is an '11 with the EB. Same configuration, same gears, etc. With my driving style, I get about 5% higher in the EB on average. IMO, there is not enough difference in MPG between the two to justify the upgrade. However, if you are talking about power, there is a huge difference between them.
