I like my Ecoboost, but for $3500.00 in savings.... Sounds like a No Brainer to me! 5.0 all the way....

Any good dealer will order you exactly what you want and give you a full discount. If your dealer is unwilling to make a deal, shop elsewhere. I personally ordered my truck and the 6 week wait was painful, but it has been worth it. MSRP $53,420 i was out the door at $42,000.

prime81 I have had no problem finding new '13 RR FX4's, there are 10+ with the options I want within 100 miles. I was considering a used one if it was cheap enough, but new there's plenty.

The 5.0 sounds with the exhaust I had were intoxicating. I also loved the high-reving nature of the 5.0 powerband. Lastly, this is a hard pill for most EB owners to digest, but my 5.0L got way better mpg's than my EB. But in the EB's defense I have towing gears, and one of the heaviest versions of the F-150. My '11, 5.0 was more conservatively geared at 3.55 and was considerably lighter being a 2wd and 145" wheelbase Scab .vs my 157" , Screw, Max Tow EB, with 3.73. If I didn't need to tow often as I do now, and just wanted a nice truck to commute in and use for light duty. I would get the truck I have now but with 5.0 & 3.55 again for the better hwy mpg's. IMO and as someone that owned a 5.0 with 3.55's , I would not want a 5.0 with 3.31's and if I'm going to spec one with 3.73's might as well get an EB. Again I say this as a current EB owner, that loves and is 100% satisfied with it. *Also thought I would mention, while I had not one issue with my 5.0 engine over 32k miles and two years. It did go through at least 1 qt of oil every 1500 miles or so and had the infamous cold start "knock" since new. I figured it was a 50/50 gamble to get an EB and risk the dreaded CAC issues, or get another oil-burning, and cold start knocking 5.0. Going with the EB was the lesser of two know issues IMO, since I don't live in or use my truck in an area where the conditions are ripe for the CAC issue.
Thanks for the honest assessment. You say you proffered to hot rod around town in the 5.0, why is that? Just that beautiful sound or was it more? Throttle response, power delivery, shifting, cruising, idle etc.?

As for mpg numbers I really do get the numbers to make it worth it, avg 21-26 mpg on highway doing 65-75mph but that's not why I like the ECO, it just drives so damn well.

But again.... $3500 could go a long way for other mods..... O well. Now it's up to me. Maybe supercharged 5.0?

Personally, I would go for the Eco.

I love it for towing, but I wouldn't give it up for day to day driving either.
I'm an old fart. I don't hot rod or race or feel I need to get to the next light ahead of the other guy. I'm also at a point where peace and quiet is desired over a loud rumble. The Eco drives effortlessly in the the mountains around here at low rpm with almost no downshifting and the associated increase in engine noise. I can merge into highway traffic with only small amounts of throttle and seldom over 2500rpm. I think if the Eco engine were discontinued I'd have to shell out the bucks for a Superduty just to get the the low-end torque again.

I like my ecoboost but I'd opt for the 5.0 in your situation.

For me, it's worth the $3,500. I keep vehicles a long time, 10 years plus. I want the truck to be exactly the way I want it, no regrets. Time will tell if the EB plays into resale value, too early to say for sure.

For me, a low revving quiet torque monster suits my style over a high revving loud V8.

I'm getting old.

I have to agree with Frieed for all of the reasons he mentioned above. I don't tow at all, but my wife and I spend a lot of time traveling in the mountains of Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire and the low end torque is worth every penny. The comfort and noise levels when climbing a mountain is fantastic! I have a boost gauge and there is nothing like just being able to keep your foot on the gas at the same rate but as the hill gets steeper I just watch the the boost gauge climb from from 2 psi up to 8 or so depending on the grade. No noisy down shifts and all the power I need. Just a seamless comfortable increase in power.
As for the $3,500 extra, if your financing it over 60 months it's just an extra $38 per payment to use that as an example. I understand everybody finances are different, but to me yes! Certainly worth the added cost IMHO.
Good luck with whatever you choose as both are great fun, just in different forms!

I really do like my ECO and I think I may be moving that direction more. I was acutally going to buy a new one at $40-41k so even paying $38,000 for a barely used one is already a few grand back in my pocket.

Nope, you've just branded it as a sleeper. Calm, comfortable, quiet, and economical(in some cases), but if you step on it, it turns into a rocket.
