First off check oil level. I've listened to many ecoboosts' and none have sounded like that. Almost sounds like rod knock...

if the oil level is low, do you think adding oil would reduce the rod knock noise or is that something more serious? I don't know much about this stuff.

I'm searching on my IPad at the moment which is a bit cumbersome. There was a fairly recent thread where the tech didn't tighten or used the wrong oil filter I forget and the guy found oil on his driveway twice after they didn't get right. It's more common than we hear about.

I know this isn't much help to your situation but again a thread here of owner who brought their truck to a dealership close to me and these guys do a huge amount of volume sales and service and he was offered a 2 year free oil change package when he bought the truck. He brought it in for the first oil change and put a identifying mark on his oil filter and tires. After work the work was supposedly completed checked and the oil filter was not changed and tires not rotated this prompted me to do the same for my first oil change I crawled under and put a paint pen mark on my filter and put LHF etc on my tires....my work was done but needless to say not at the dealer the other guy went to...crooks.

I watched this episode last night it's not a Ford dealership but a shady quick lube oil change company. It makes so much sense to do it yourself if you can. http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/

Sorry to ramble In your thread killing some time at the moment.

no worries... free bump anyways. I really just hope someone can help me to understand this better. I am very nervous about driving this truck any distance now... I don't feel that adding oil (if it's low) will fix the problem but there is nothing else I can do at the moment.

I'm no mechanic either. I've read here that low oil levels may not reflect on your oil pressure gauge and the different viscosity of oil for example 5w30 5w20 10w30 etc can actually produce different engine sound / characteristics. I forget I think the lower numbers represent thinner oil I'll let the gear head mechanic guys debunk my BS

It could be a cracked rod, getting ready to break. Common in SE Texas because of driving "at" dew point for hours. I would think that is impossible in AZ?

Honestly the cracked and bent rods have been much louder, so it could be an oil change problem?

I hope so... After I heard the knocking this AM at my first stop I "tested" the go pedal and it ran normally. Punched it and accelerated to 7 both times without a hiccup. I am hoping and praying that it is something simple. I had a member at the gym come listen and he could hear it too.

14,000 miles too! I just can't believe it....

I need people who are tuners and aftermarket vendors to listen to this too... they are probably far more experienced with this motor than a lot of people are.

Yeah or a mechanic friend if you have one or know one close by. It's so hard to trouble shoot a sound off a YouTube video.

I know... thanks for trying! At least a couple people can hear it... checking the oil when I get home. Fingers are crossed.
