I'm shocked this thread hasn't been close yet.

Both the 5.0 and Eco are great engines and serve different purposes for different people. OP, best advise if to try different engines with different gear ratios in the rear and see what you like. Look at tow rating and payload as well. Get what makes you happy. Everyone can debate all day what you should get but it's your money in the end and it's up to you. I'm sorry members turned this into another bashing thread on you. Good luck and keep us update on what you decide to buy.

I had a thought...I wonder what it would be like if we were all in the same room, or all at a bar or lounge or something talking about this stuff. Mix a little alcohol into the discussion...

I got the 5.0 for 3 simple reasons:

1) Its cheaper to buy
2) It has plenty of power for a half ton truck
3) It is a less expensive truck to maintain over time

With respect to the fuel economy aspect I don't worry about it. I for one know that if I have an ecoboost, I would always be in boost...so that wouldnt help. LOL The 5.0 gets decent mileage anyways. I get about 17 mixed. Either way, your getting the best truck on the road.

For someone who started out saying this:

Neither one may not be relevant to what you want out of a truck and all opinions about both motors are subjective and should not be taken as fact even though some like to spew their opinions as fact. You will not get anything useful out of asking such a question in this forum and would probably get more info out of an extended test drive of both engines.
You sure had a change of heart pretty quickly, you must have several thousand words typed in this thread already.

Everyone would be extremely civil.
The conversation would quickly go to something like sports, fishing, guns, etc and everyone would get alone fine, despite the hunk of metal beneath the hood of their car.

Only a select few guys would be secretly brewing in anger, wishing desperately that someone there would dare challenge their otherworldly knowledge of car engines and all things mechanical so that they could run through their list of talking points on why and how their second largest financial decision that they'll ever make is better than anyone who dared to not make the exact same decision as theirs.

They'd end up extremely disappointed that no one is interested in a pissing match about something that frankly doesn't matter.
They would then drive home, mumbling to themselves the whole way, having imaginary arguments and rebuttals ready for every possible disagreement anyone could have even thought about having with them had their favorite subject been discussed at even a remote fraction of the length they wished it had been.
They mentally prepared for the moment since the day they began googling the internet for even the slightest edge their truck had over another, whether subjective or not. This was their time to shine - but it was never to be. Everyone else was busy having a beer and shooting the **** about stuff that matters.

They went home and continued the imaginary debate in the only place left where a man can win an argument, regardless of how ridiculous it may be or how few people care to listen - the shower.
