Default Eco -Boost or The V8?

Greetings to all. I am new to the forum and joined in hopes of getting some insight and suggestions on a purchase I intend to make soon. My bride of 42 years and I have decided to sell our 1995 Dodge Ram that we purchased new and get a new truck. The only product I'm interested in after looking at all of our options is the F150. I do tow a boat (7500#) but usually not that far and until I retire not that often. I sometimes also tow a flat bed trailer covered with quads a few times a year. The research I've done has revealed some isolated eco-boost problems when in a humid climate. I'm in Oregon and it doesn't get much wetter than here in the winter months. I'm torn between the V8 and the Eco-boost. The extra money even though important is not a deal killer for us. Are there any common nit picks from those of you that own these trucks? Things you wish had been done differently? I know most of you probably love your rigs as I am the same way but I can identify systemic issues I experienced with the Dodge over the years that I have owned it and would not hesitate to share what those where. Anything you can share good, bad or indifferent is appreciated. I'm looking to get the 4X4 super crew in either the XLT or Lariat package. Thanks in advance.

wait and get the new Dodge 2500HD

All the Ecoboost guys will tell you to get the Ecoboost, and all the 5.0 guys will tell you to get the 5.0.

Ecoboost will tow better and overall get better mileage. Doesn't sound like a truck is what the 5.0 guys will tell you.

I like my 2012 EB. Most fun vehicle I have ever owned. I really like driving it.
We pull a 30' travel trailer that probably grosses about 7200# to 7500#.
The EB pulls much better than my Titan or Armada.
I have lots of pick up and tow ability.
I live in Houston, which is about a humid as it gets. In the one year I have had mine, I have had no issues with the truck or engine.
Not saying it is better than a 5.0, because I have never owned a 5.0.
But the EB has more torque and HP than the 5.0.
I am completely satisfied with mine.

Oh Christ, here we go again!

(In all seriousness, just get the one you want to. But for your tow weight, I'd get the max tow option with ecoboost)

I'm simply asking for what systemics issues have owners had if any and what would they like to have done differently. I sure hope you are not representative of the kind of people that are on this site. Jeez. And in case your wondering I did a search prior to making the post but could not find what I was looking for.

I had a 96 GMC and now have the 2011 F150 XLT with the Ecoboost and max tow package, so I understand about having a vehicle for a long time. I first saw the DVD from the dealership on Ecoboost engine and it really peaked my interest. The more research I did on it, the more I liked it. So when the time came for me to get a new to me truck, I knew what I wanted to get. I bought mine last year used and got a good deal on it. I haven't had any problems with it as far as moisture goes. I've even driven through a flooded road at night that I didn't see was flooded and had no issues.

I'm really happy with my choice and pull a TT that weighs 7,000# with no problem.

If I had it to do over again I would have gotten a 5.0 BUT, that being said, there are not that many of us with problems when you look at the big picture and (supposedly) any ecoboosts built after whatever date will not have the intercooler problem.
To be fair, my ecoboost gets good mpg's and runs like a scalded ape... unless it falls flat on its face of course.

There are plenty of Eco vs 5.0 threads and conversations on here which is why this seems to be an ongoing post/question.

Fair enough but my search did not find any of those. Regardless being rude was not called for much less appreciated. I wasn't asking one vs. the other either as it seems to have been taken. I simply asked about problems owners may have had that is helpful information when making a decision. I thought that was a reasonable inquiry. I gather so far either is for the most part trouble free. Thanks

No worries brother... Some of us are just on here A LOT and see the same questions pop up. Some deal with new member and new questions well, others don't... I will tell you there are more friendly helpful people on here than mean people. I will give you a tip, don't use the forum search, just search on google for whatever you need followed by: , f150 forum and it should take you to whatever you are looking for on here or another board. I am en ecoboost owner and have no issues. It is a 2013 with a build date of 08/12 so that puts me into the pool of owners who could possibly have issues. Drive both and make your decision.... I would be very surprised if you dont go ecoboost.
