Default eco boost intercooler and plumbing

has anyone bought one of the universal coolers off ebay or local speed shop and designed up and ran their own plumbing for the turbos

PIA?
not so hard?
worth it?

id like to relocate the IC and run bigger tubes and such ..
but the 1000 price tag some of these vendors want is a bit much

im wondering if i bought a universal 2 in 1 out IC for 150-200 from local speed shop and figured the bends and such if its worth just doing myself and what the cost savings might be

or even worth it

thanks in advance for feedback

Why are you wanting bigger cac tubes? You would see no benefit at all.

With IC tubing, bigger is not better. Keeping the shortest track as well as the smallest (per application) diameter tubing is best for reducing lag. You could do a custom fab one yourself and a lot of it would just be personal preference. Which FMIC do you want, tube/fin or bar/plate. Following the factory piping is prob the best idea and it could stand to be smoothed out in a few areas where the piping is kinked and snaked around. I did a custom setup on my DSM back in the day and it worked as well as the aftermarket kits but saved me some cash. I spent about 300 for IC and piping compared to 750 for a kit.

Honestly the stock pipes after the Maf do get really smooshed up and I'm surprised ford designed it like that. I was noticing this when I vented my blow off valves.

Most guys aren't into engine enough to do that on this site. If you have access to a tube bender or have enough hard bend piping to cut up and weld it wouldn't be hard.

That would make sense if we had a MAF.
