Default Eco to 5.0

For you guys who traded your Eco to go to a 5.0, do you have any regrets? Do you miss the low end torque? Do you miss the acceleration? Any positives that you can think of? I'll save you one, reliability, my Eco was 100% reliable.

The reason I ask is that my wife and I sold our 31' travel trailer earlier this year. Because of that, I moronically thought I no longer needed a truck and traded my 11 Eco for a car. Ugh, stupid, I want a truck again!

Anyways, I don't see any reason to not go 5.0 this time around and it saves me a grand or so. There will be no heavy towing in my future, we've already decided that if we bought another camper (which I doubt until retirement 20+ years down the road) it would be much smaller anyways.

My dealer found me a 5.0 configured exactly how I wanted it and at a price worth trading the recently bought car. All I have to do is say "go" and it's mine but I thought I would ask the question. And of course, I know how much this forum loves this question.

I can't really tell you any regrets since I test drove both and bought the 5.0

But I was pretty much in the same boat, I don't tow a whole lot and after driving them both the V8 seemed like the obvious choice given it was cheaper.

It's a great motor, plenty of power for what you'd use it for, plus if you put an exhaust on it it'll sound nice and mean, if that matters to you at all.

You will miss the extra torque, you are admitting this already. If you can tell yourself every time you hit the gas and are disappointed by this that you saved a grand, then Buy the 5.0.

I'm thinking I will go 5.0 next time around too. I don't need the extra TQ and I'd rather save the $ and get the v8 rumble

Don't get me wrong, I love the EB and it's never given me a problem. Like Confucius say, don't need cannon to kill fly.

Since you won't be towing I don't see much difference. I own a 5.0 and tow a 29' travel trailer, and had I known at the time we'd get a trailer I would have bought an ecoboost. Before the travel trailer I had 0 complaints about the 5.0

Went 5.0 after having an Eco. No regrets at all. I drive new Eco's at work all the time and I've found that ford's latest programming and intercooler make the engine feel "meh", all things considered. I'm really enjoying the sound, better fuel mileage and lack of turbo lag my 5.0 offers vs my Eco.

it's all personal preference. I will rarely tow anything, rarely haul anything, but I wanted the sheer power. I've always been in love with power. While I REALLY miss the V8 sound of every other truck i've driven, but to be honest.... now that I'm running a 93 tune, i wouldn't be able to stomach the weak 5.0 without a supercharger. But this is me. I said all this to make you think about what you hold as a priority. For me it was the power potential, then luxury (platinum), then everything else. make a list if what you want out of the truck and see if the 5.0 works, or if the EB makes more sense to YOU.

A quick tune changes all those thing and only increases the advantages of ecoboost. But there is still the extra cost, so if you don't need it why buy it. Like buying an xlt. It's the basic average model, but I bet it works for most and is the highest selling model.

Yeah your driving habits play a factor too. If you live your life a quarter mile at a time like Vin Diesel the ecoboost might be a better choice for you.
