I got mine specifically for boat ramps. It was my compromise for not getting 4x4. sometimes the shorter trailers (jet ski) require backing further down the ramp and it is piece of mind for both tires to have power.
I have not used mine yet except for when the detailer turned it on by accident and I realized quickly when I pulled out of my parking space.
I guess I should probably engage it and hope that it did not get messed up.

Dont mean to derail the thread but just wanted to say be careful with this. Ive been on many boat ramps that had a lot of algae on them. Both back tires would spin so a locker wont help. I almost lost my old dodge into lake livingston becasue of this. Backing in a little ol jet ski, put the parking brake on, stepped out and the truck started sliding into the water. Luckily I was able to jump back in and hit the brakes (parking brake only applies the back brakes). Without 4wd or someone to pull me out I probably wouldnt have been able to get it out.
The locker will make a difference but just be careful.

no offense but this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. are you saying my sister should have bought a 2wd Jeep instead of a 4wd one, and have to struggle to make it anywhere in winter? because she sure as **** doesn't know what a locker is.

Lots of misinformation being posted in here which is a prime example of why one need a to be cautious who he listens to on the internet!

The electronic locker CAN be engaged on the fly up to speeds of 25 mph (the speed at which it will automatically unlock.) You do not need to be stopped or in park or neutral. It really should only be used if you are stuck or have traction issues such as leaving a stop sign in the snow or stuck in mud etc. When I have used it on my 2wd, I disengage it right away after I get moving. You don't want to be doing a lot of turning with your axles locked unless conditions allow for wheel slippage because that is what will cause binding, bucking, tire scrubbing, grinding, etc. When your differential is locked, your wheels cannot spin independently of each other at different speeds which is what a differential allows for when turning when the outer wheel must rotate faster than the inner wheel.

OP, what were the conditions in which you engaged your locker? Was it dry roads?

OP explained that he was using it on ice, going straight.

He's not using it wrong. There is an issue with some trucks with the E-Locker creating a terrible banging/clanking noise when the tires are spinning on a slippery surface (yes going straight).

Great info wtf150 and MEZERR. Thanks. That is exactly how I thought it should be used. To avoid the clanking issue I plan to avoid using it. I guess the way I look at it is the locker makes sense for a 2wd, but personally with 4wd I have no need for it. I can see how it could be needed for some 4wd owners who do heavy off roading or plowing. Anyway.....other than that issue I love my truck. Leaps and bounds better than my 2005 although that truck was also very good to me until just before the end.
