Question Drivetrain lash/slack -- before I go to the dealer, a question

I have a 2013 Ecoboost Supercrew 4x4 with 1,300 miles on it, and noticed a possible issue with the drivetrain. From time to time (not every time), when driving low speed (think parking lot driving), and getting on and off the gas, or at time just rolling away from the light and tapping the gas, or even during an occasional downshift I hear a pop/clunk in the drivetrain and feel the truck jerk a bit. It's almost like there's some play in the driveshaft or yoke, and it takes up the slack.
I've done a few web searches on that topic, and came up with a TSB for slip yoke grease or incorrect pinion gear pre-tension, but I'm not sure if what I'm experiencing is normal and I'm just sensitive to a new vehicle, or is in fact a problem. I've driven a 2wd Ecoboost and didn't notice that.
Before I waste my and my dealer's time, I wanted to ask if anyone else has felt that.
Thanks for your help!

It's basically your driveshaft, slip yoke. Have the shop re-grease the yoke and reinstall it.

Thank you for a prompt reply! Did that fix the issue for you?

Well, unfortunately, that's not it. My truck has a one piece driveshaft, so the yoke fits directly into the transfer case and there's nothing to lubricate. Tech just shrugged and attributed it to 'drivetrain wind-up', and said if it got worse to bring it back.
Still looking for solutions.

Ok, I may have given you misinformation after re-reading your concern and then comparing to my new '13, FX4, EcoBoost, Screw, 157".

My old truck I traded in, was 2011, XLT, 5.0L, 2wd, 145", Scab. I had the slip/ yoke bump which occurred when slowing the truck to a stop. Once stopped, a thunk or bump would occur about 2-3 seconds after. That is the slip/ yoke bump that everyone is talking about here.

My dealer re-greased the yoke twice (It would come back a few thousand miles after each re-grease) I then pressured my dealer to replace the driveshaft, not sure if I was just lucky, but it worked and I never had another slip-yoke/ bump from then on, till I traded it in.

That said, I have a different drivetrain jolt or slip. This happens on my new '13, EcoBoost. Basically sitting at a light, then add very light throttle input and there is a slight slip or catch. Almost feels like a tooth or two is missing in the differential or trans someplace. doesn't do it every time, but 1 out of 5 times or slightly more frequent.

Wish I could figure that out sooner before later. I apologize I told you it could be the slip yoke, I thought it was until I noticed the issue you described in your new '13 EcoBoost with my very own.

i had a similar problem in my 5.0. It felt like i was almost being rear-ended at low speeds. dealer said it was normal on the 6 speed transmission. i guess if you're slowing down the transmission downshifts thinking you're going to stop. if you accelerate without stopping it will sometimes give you a good jerk coming back out of first gear fast.

dont know if that helps you or not.

Hi forourspam,

I want to get your regional customer service manager involved so they can help; shoot me a PM with your information and I'll get this into their hands. Be sure to include your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, mileage, and preferred servicing dealership in your message. I'll get to work!

My 2011 F-150 truck with 14K does the very same thing. When I drive to town which is three miles away and if I get stopped by the 1st or 2nd stoplight when it hits second gear it jerks in gear hard. After the trans warms up it never does it again. I've also noticed if I back out of my driveway (uphill) and take off it will jerk occasionally. I've taken it to my dealer twice and they were no help at all.
