I had my seat bottom cushion replaced by the dealer and the new piece seems better - for now. OP - What was your build date? Mine was 2-3-11. Maybe it was a bad run of cushions? I agree that they needed a dead pedal for the left foot to rest on. At my height, I actually moved the seat forward a little and it seems to be more comfortable.

4-9-11, how hard was it to get them to replace it?

Been working with my dealership for years - good guys, I just told them it was uncomfortable. Try telling them you feel the cushion is crushing way too soon or that you can feel the seat frame and feel the cushion isn't right.

The padding is a bit thin. And it's much harder now that they are using that recycled material for the foam.

More odd to me is how the seat is off-center to the right by about 2 inches. It makes getting to the brake a bit harder, and not having the steering wheel centered in front of me took a while to get used to.

Also makes it a long reach to hang the left arm on the door.

I can only guess they did this to improve side-impact scores?

I haven't noticed that in mine.

I did notice some difference in the manual adjust seats between the demonstrator that I drove for 3 hours and the truck that I eventually bought.

The demonstrator was a 4WD 2010 SCrew with chrome package and some options. After about 45 minutes in that I noticed my right foot getting numb. When I got back to the dealer I told them if they were all like that I'd have to pass. Anyway, found a 2010 2WD Scab on the lot same as what I wanted to order - it was sold therefore I couldn't drive it but as soon as I sat in it I knew the seat was better than the other one.
So maybe there's some manufacturing variation in these seats. I'm 6'3", 225 lbs and the seat in my 2010 is comfortable on long drives.

Steering wheel could be an inch closer though - I've got used to it but an adjustable would have been nice.

Default seat advice

read this string and am in the same boat. Im 270 6 3 and have this 2011 XLT with XTR pakage 4 way power seat ( lumbar is a dial). I can feel the seat skeleton under my right and left thigh and its quite unfomfortable. I have this truck with me tonight for a test drive and need to make up my mind by tomorrow. I think a retro with firm foam would fix this - any updates guys? Gregt

I get a dull throbbing pain in the back of my right leg after driving for 15 or 20 minutes. It's almost unbearable. It seems to lessen if I do not have my wallet in my right back pocket.

Funny, because I had the same type of split-bench seat in my 1998 which I drove for 13 years and leg/back comfort was never an issue.

I am having the same issue. I am 6'6" and the truck is new. No wear.

I think it would be difficult to build a seat that fits everyone's comfort level.
This is what works best for me as well. I do a lot of long distance driving every summer and this really helps. I actually had a '01 Bullitt Mustang that was the most comfortable long-distance driver I have ever had.

Fords best seats, ever, we're the sport buckets used in the ranger and explorer through 1996.

Nice padding. Good lateral support. Adjustable wings. Adjustable thigh support.

Sadly they were de-contented out in the 1997 model year and frankly ford seats, overall, have sucked every since.

The lack of adjustable thigh support is an unfortunate FU to tall drivers.
