Default drivers door speaker issue, sounds blown from time to time

So on short trips its fine but when i drive over a hr the door speaker starts to sounds blown when the bass hits, so bad that i have to lower the radio to where i can barley hear it. If the speaker was blown it would do it all the time, why after a hr or so it does this? If i let the truck sit for 20 mins its fine again. Is something heating up causing this or what?

My 2011 SCAB did the same thing. Mine turned out to be a bad speaker, I changed it and all was good. i have learned since that there is a common wiring harness fault in the rubber boot area where the wires go from truck to door. Try manipulating them wires with the radio on, If you can cause it to mess up its probably not a bad speaker.

There are a couple of threads on this issue and in several cases it has turned out to be the wiring harness in the door. In my case it was the passenger door. It sounded like the speaker was crackling/static and it drove me crazy. Dealer replaced it under warranty.

Not sure it applies in your case, but there is a TSB for the 2010 - 2012:

Wtf, I have a '13 but I guess it doesn't rule that out. The dealer has a new speaker for me but after I told off the manager there I have to find a new dealer. This truck is really turning out to be a pos!

Yup, had same issue with my previous truck 2011, Scab, XLT. I replaced the speakers three times and it kept coming back. Replaced the lead wires with new ones (the pig tails leading to the speaker and harness) each time it would fix the issue for a few months and return.

In a nutshell, I believe the weather-seal where the top of the door has that drop down design like the Superduty trucks is prone to failure. This allows excessive water from rain, automatic car washes and pressure washers to enter the inside of the door and corrode the wiring.

Every time I replaced the speakers and or wiring on my 2011, the wire leads themselves had visible corrosion on the terminals. Often I found condensation inside the door as well.

If thats the case i wonder why it would do it after a long period of driving, i would think it would do it no matter the time frame? Not saying your wrong but just thinking out loud.

I have had this issue since new. I've taken it to the dealer multiple times and they always say they can never replicate my issue and it find any problems. Mine go in and out at low volume also

I had this issue on my 2011. They replaced the door speaker and it went away.

Just like everyone else has been saying, I had the same thing happen with my passenger side speaker, replaced under warranty. However, now it seems that my passenger side speaker is "better/louder" than my drivers side. I have to keep my balance setting set a couple notches over to the drivers side to make it sound equal.

Just posted the same. Really noticible on talk radio. Some days it's not noticible with 3 other speakers working right but some days it's very noticible with talk radio. The cone is likely ripped from the voice coil or the cone is ripped from the surround. It may be the surround that's ripped as speakers can sound OK one moment and like crap the next.

Here's my thread about the blown speaker issue.

BTW, my speaker has a bad buzzing in with distorted sound. Heard this before in blown speakers.
