Drive shaft snapped at 103K miles

Don't you mean ..... U-joint failed. ????? It's EXTREMELY difficult to snap a driveshaft.
Need more details. *Especially vehicle particulars - year, model, cab, trim, engine, wheelbase, _x4 drive, etc..

Yeah, most driveshaft issues I have seen have been from racing and insane launches. Do you tow a lot? Have pics ?

No I don't ever tow and no I didn't take a pic.
Obviously, the shaft itself didn't break; one side of the shaft's "u" snapped (not the differential's u-joint), but the shaft's "u" isn't a separate part.
First it rumbled like I ran over something metal but there was nothing in the road. Then it behaved normal for about a 100 feet and then clank-clank-BANG.
I pull over on a freeway ramp and see the shaft dragging.
Dealer doesn't get the part till Wednesday so I can take a pic if needed.
I've done some nasty launches but only a couple, if that's a factor.
Oh ... '09 FX4 Supercab short bed; 5.4, 35" Toyo OC Muds, no lift or mods.

I'm going to guess that the bearings in the U-joint cap froze to the shaft due to "permanently lubricated" and that's what caused it to break. Remember when we used to have grease fittings on those things?
It is possible you hit something though. Does the piece left in the rear axle move freely? What about the part in the driveshaft?

That sucks!
Blown U Joint... Idk if they can fix the driveshaft. Get a used one and save some cash.
Fortunately, it didn't mess up your differential yoke.
Didn't anything else underneath get messed up beyond repair?
