Default The Dreaded No Heat Seat Issue

2010 Ford F150 KingRanch

I'm sorry if this has been brought up a number of times, but I thought I'd write my issue and see if someone can pinpoint me to a repair.
It's winter here in Canada, and so I go to use the driver side seat heater and the three orange bars come up, stay on for 40 seconds and then pop off. I go to do it again, and it immediately turns off.
I hear the relay on both the passenger side and the drivers side kicking in, heat is working on the passenger side , and the rear seat is functiioning as usual, just no heat on the driverside.
Is this a module repair, connectors, or the heat pad under the seat issue, any clarity as to a fix would be greatly appreciated.
Ken

does the driver side seat get hot/warm at all?

If you search there are some trouble shooting steps both here and on Youtube, just make sure you're looking at the correct year because it changed from the heating element on the seat cushion to using the TEDS units. Forscan was super helpful with my 12 and narrowing down the problem, then was able to use a volt meter to verify controller, harness or TEDS unit.

You mention 'rear seat is functioning as usual' - what does that mean? Are you talking about the rear seats? Are you talking about the driver's seat-back?

I'm assuming you have the heated and cooled seats, so running the TED devices?
Pull the main plugs under the passenger seat and check for any charring etc. If it's all clean, smear some dielectric grease in the holes and reconnect, it fixed mine.

Thank-you for some help here with my 2010 with the dual heating and cooling seats.
For a bit more clarity, the rear bench seat is working well when the heat buttons on both doors are put on .
The Passenger side all bars light up, heats up just fine, seat cushion and back rest both warming.
No heat on the drivers chair, seat cushion or back rest, and no lights on the indicators staying on.
Much appreciated.

Do you have heated and cooled, or just heated (they are totally different systems)

OK, so unless they changed in 2011+, they should be using the TED device, go ahead and follow my suggested for the plugs under the passenger seat.

I recently had this happen to my 2010 and with troubleshooting steps, I narrowed it down to the seat back TED malfunctioning. The lights would stay on for what seemed like 20-30 seconds and then shut off. The passenger heated/cooled seat worked fine.

So you can easily figure this out by opening up the seat back of the working passenger TED and removing it and plugging it into the drivers seat back TED location - if you have suspicion of it being the seat back TED and if the seat bottom TED has already been recently replaced. At this point, try the heated seat again on the driver side. If the lights go out yet again, it is likely the seat bottom TED that's malfunctioning. You can also plug in a working seat bottom TED into the seat back TED plugin for troubleshooting which TED is actually causing the system to shut off. This works the other way too.

Do take notice of the seat bottom TED part numbers when looking for a replacement online or from the dealer if it happens to be the seat bottom TED needing replacement, as they are different from driver to passenger sides. They have a plate on the TED, offset with the opening for hot/cool air to go directly into the seat cushion. If the wrong part number TED is installed, this opening won't be fully into the seat cushion opening and will cause the TED to burn out prematurely. Just something to be aware of.

I too, checked the passenger plugs under the seat and all was fine there. So it's likely just one of the TEDs that aren't functioning anymore for you audioman.

Anyway, the seat back TED is super easy to replace, should you need to. The bottom TED definitely can cut up your hand when replacing those (ignorant mounting location and working space).

2010 F150 heated/cooled seats
TED Passenger seat bottom: 8A5Z-19N550-B(incorrect mounting plate opening for driver seat bottom - can retrofit old driver seat mounting plate onto this device)
TED Driver seat bottom: 8A5Z-19N550-C (can be used for passenger seat bottom in 2 ways: modification to seat cushion opening requiring cutting slot opening with scissors - slightly wider OR retrofit old passenger seat mounting plate onto this device)
TED Driver/Passenger seat back:AA5Z-19N550-A (works on both seat backs)

Thank-you JaCeDx for the detailed repair procedures, I'll dig into the back of those seats and see what I discover.
The electronics in these 2010 Fords is anything but reliable yikes!!

yes drivers side gets heat on one of the settings. Everything on YouTube is for a configuration different from mine: heated and cooled seats (not me); heat controls to the left of the steering wheel; or heat controls center panel with HVAC controls
