So that did NOT have a center axle disconnect (CAD) like the 97-03 f150's? GM also used a CAD from 89 - ?? maybe current? The giveaway would be if the front driveshaft always turned, then it has no CAD. The disconnect actuator (if present) is on the long side axle, immediately outboard of the diff housing. With this system, both half-shafts turned but the R&P did not because the right axle shaft was uncoupled just outboard of the diff. The side and spider gears spun inside the carrier, but the carrier itself didn't turn. The two halves of the right axle actually spun in opposite directions when not engaged. Kind of a funky system, but it worked OK. I think Nissan used it for a few years too.

OK, did my homework. 1995-96 Rangers had CAD. Prior to that they were manual hubs and after that they were live axle.

I think I'm going to order these. I have talked to people who have had them coming up on 2 years with no issue. I already changed one iwe because the dealer said my mud tires were all they could hear. They checked vac and said it was fine. I explained the popping is in 4x4 and don't need vac for that. They looked again and just said they couldn't replicate it. Just taking it to them was $50. Now I can hear the right side starting to do the same thing. With the vac disconnected they still slip out and pop and cause issues. I have the 7" ready lift so not worried if I loose a mpg.. My main prob is in 4 wheel the iwe is slipping under a load. I hear many people complaining about this even with normal size tires. I believe that Dodge and Chevy are still running their front axles all the time. I'll check back in after I get them and have the time to put them in.

I decided to go with the RCV. After talking to both companies Dorman is made to factory specs. RCV is a higher grade metal and is wider for more contact. Both are about the same price RCV comes in a set and dorman sells them individually.
Now just waiting for them to ship.

Yes,put them on last weekend. Nice to not have the iwe humming. Now won't have to be changing them every 3 months.
