Seems some have them and others don't. Was there a mid-year change?

 

my 09 FX4 has dents, they are just weak and they dont hold on inclines or declines and if there is wind.......... but on a perfect day on a lvl parking lot they work great.

 

Interesting that some seem to have it. May have to stop at the dealership and ask about it or try a few other trucks on the lot to see if they have a detent (I am going to look that word up now...)

Weird to see my XL has a feature some upper level upgrades are lacking lol. Mine locks at just before halfway, and locks pretty well there, doesnt spring open until I push it open. If its bothering yall too much, I would try tasca parts.

 

my 2010 stx has the same problem. when i first got the truck the detents and doors were fine, they opened stifly and caught nicely halfway. but after a month of use that went away. the catch became very very weak, you have to manually slowly push it out and feel for it to even know its there now.

id idn't noticed the change personally until i opened the passenger door one day and noticed that it actually caught halfway and wouldn't be flung as easy.

it seems to be normal for these trucks to wear down that catch really really fast. or is it a problem that ford needs to fix? i personally liked how it opened when i first got it and would like it fixed if possible. but i don't know that the dealer would do anything about it. haven't had time to ask.

 

My 09 XLT Screw has detents. The front doors detents aren't as centered as the rear doors though. The fronts are like 1/3 before the detent and 2/3 after it. While the rears are about 1/2 and 1/2. I'm small enough where I can squeeze out of the door with it in the detent but I'm sure a larger person would have trouble.

I was thinking if the detent isn't big enough for the front doors get ones from the rear doors and install them on the fronts. They are only held on by 3 bolts. If you look at the door hinge points you can see the indents on the linkage that is the door catch.

 

yeah the rears on my 2010 scab have them, but the fronts don't seem to, now that you mention it

 

Mine has the detent, just not in the right place. Mine is either almost open enough or wide open. I had been thinking about adding a third detent position to mine for a while now, somewhere between the two. I took the screws out of the drivers front door, but couldn't get to the back side of the assembly to remove it.

I can tell you if you make the mistake of shutting the door with the door side bolt out, it is nearly impossible to pull it out without being attached to the door. It does look like the front and rear are different, at least they are different prices from Tasca.

Maybe I will tackle this another day, if someone doesn't beat me to it.
