No no, your logic is flawed... If you tailgate close enough the rocks and sand don't have time to fly up and hit your front end.

Well Mr. No-it-all, YOU are the one that said your windshield looked sandblasted so why can't you seem to put 2 and 2 together and come up with the correct answer? I am NOT assuming things about your life/driving style, only your driving. I understand that vehicles throw sand and it happens to me too. However, the evidence you presented with the pictures and your statement about your windshield also the same way, flatly shows a large amount of chips obtained in a short amount of time. Logical conclusion is to stop the damned tail gating!
And while we are at it, you are also doing some assuming of your own! Titling this "Do not not 3M your vehicle. You are assuming that everyone is driving like you and getting the chips you are getting. Here is a quote for you: "Stupid is as stupid does".

So you ARE assuming things about his driving style. Unless you sat in the passenger seat of hardcore's truck, you have no idea. So just stop.

Is it so hard to understand that each area that we live in is different? Regardless of how someone drives, we cannot control the duration of our winters, the amount of gravel that on the road and the driving habits of our fellow commuters around us.

In my opinion it's a law of averages in regards to people in the Canadian prairies or states that are similar. Our winters are 6 months long and thus we have to drive in these conditions much longer and therefore will have a much greater chance of our front ends getting blasted over and over again. Again, even if we are religious about keeping 60 ft back, we can't stop other drivers from cutting in and kicking up rocks, period. It's BS to blame someone's driving style, so f'ing drop it.

The only thing that bothers me with the thread is the double negative in the title. If you have nothing to contribute but your commentary on people you know nothing about, f-off and get a life.

I'm assuming you have multiple lane highways where you live. Ever been passed by someone going 1-2 mph faster than you? It takes a while for them to get past you, in which time they throw a lot of rocks/sand (yes, I know one can slow down, then resume speed when they're far enough ahead. That's not my point though). Even the people passing you at 10 mph faster, are still going to throw plenty of debris. How can you clowns not understand this fact..? Rock chips aren't the be all end all sign of a tailgater...
