'11 F150 XLT SCrew 4x4 with 40/20/40 seats. 10,000 miles The front passenger seat back has slowly been vibrating and rattling more and more lately. Been in to the dealer twice and nothing is wrong they say They told me to try putting two pounds of ballast in the map case and try that. Geez, really?

Anytime I go over pot holes washboards or variations in the road it goes thump, thump, thump. Driving me nuts. I can stop it by putting my hand on the back of the seat and substantially mitigate it.

I've asked for a new seat but not sure they'll go for it. Anyone else have the same problem?

There was a thread on this awhile ago and one guy got one or both seat rails replaced which fixed it. Search for it and see what you can find.

Yup, mine does it. Going down the road it seems to shake side to side a bit. I can put my hand again the top of the seat to stop it, or just turn up the music. I don't think I can get it fixed though, out of warranty.

You only need to adjust the passenger seat forward about 4 notches to make it stop rattling.

Thanks guys for the insight. I don't think it is the seat itself but actually the back. The back vibrates back 'n forth and makes this thunk, thunk, thunk noise. I can feel it as I press onto it as I drive. I can feel the vibration through the back of the seat.

I'll try the extra ballast as they recommended so it will faciliate the process...cuz if I don't then they'll drag their feet. But I'll also tell the dealership others are experiencing this and replacing the seat assembly seemed to fix it.

Only when I turn up the bass lol

But in all seriousness, no, my seats haven't had any problems

Noticed this on my brand new truck yesterday when I picked it up.
The tar strips on the blacktop are enough to make the seat do the thunk/rattle

Will be asking about that, thanks for the tips.

Got two scratchs on the winshield to deal with as well...... mmm hope they make me happy

My '95 Chevy K1500 6.5L Turbo Diesel did that. They replaced the seat tracks.

Putting ballast in the seat sounds like a horrible idea to me. Not the least of which I think it would throw off the airbag calibration.
