Do tire pressure sensors require programming?
 

The tire pressure sensors are not terribly expensive so I was thinking of getting them for my winters just to not have the light on the dash!

Does anyone know if a new set of sensors I purchase require some special programming that a dealer is going to charge me an arm and a leg for ? or are they just plug and play?

How much are the sensors?? My light came on cuz I don't have them.....

Yes you can buy the programmer from the dealer it's not very expensive.

Nah man i got mud tires on my truck and the sensors were just left in my stock wheels!! :censored: So now i got to put out more money to get them! lol

My 2009 manual said the programmer was supposed to be in the truck at delivery so I went back and requested it and they gave it to me for free. They told me I was the first person who has ever asked. I assume you guys are talking about the TPS tool that reprogams the tires when they are rotated.

Wow. I don't believe I got a programmer either! I'll look around but if the manual states this then I'm going to ask for one as well.

The TPMS reset tool was on page 236-237 of my manual and it said you get one only if the tire pressure is different between the front and rear tires. Mine are all the same pressure so I didnt get one .

You need the tool if you replace a sensor to program it and if you run two different tire pressures in your tires you need it to reset the sensors. Most tire stores have the tools to reset the TPMS sensors.

Thanks binaryman3 ... you're absolutely correct. I thought it was used to tell the system where each tire was mounted so the system would tell you which tire was low. Thus, if you rotated you would have to reset. But looking back at the manual I now see that it is only if you have different pressures for front and back. My dealer should have caught this but luckily a got a free tool instead.
